Injuries and bad recruiting evaluations. My guess is that he does well. As much as UT fans hated him, he did not forget how to be an elite DC. Very little went right under Lyle.

From what I read in a few spots, sounds like he was hamstrung by Jones, either by hiring the assistants or just letting him have full reign

I don't think he ever had the personnel to run what he truly wanted to do. He played a lot of 4-2-5, which makes it difficult to stop the run. Kirkland Jr was the QB of the defense and he missed a ton of games during the 2 years Shoop was here. Shoop was good at Vandy and Penn St and I don't think he all of a sudden forgot how to coach defense when he was here. He'll probably be pretty good at Miss St.

Overall MSU has done really well in this coaching search they’ve absolutely done a **** ton better then ole miss that’s for sure
