What about oil futures which went up as we pissed of more of those in the middle east, or the growing national debt which has helped in weakening the dollar. A lot of things were effected by a lot of other things, and one of them was Iraq.

Yes, letting the market work itself out is the best policy. Tell me your policy.

Fourth, I have learned that my attempts at internet humor fail miserably. I actually think T. Boone is just out to make a buck. I was making fun of his energy "plan".

Debt to income ratios have not worsened for the US and those in the business of valuing the dollar understand that. I would argue that the BOP equation the main driver of the devalued dollar and that gets into foreign holdings, demand and trade deficit. That's more about competitive nature of our exports and the fact that we are huge net importers.

The oil futures have been driven by the wealth of capital poured into that market. The "supply issues" while real to some degree, have been overblown into a complete speculator's wet dream.

I know many want to shackle Iraq / Bush with blame for everything and each deserves his share, this is just a different animal and is indicative of the cyclical nature of the dynamic world economy.

I am under the impression that shipwrecks work rather well as artificial reefs. I saw a documentary on the Osborne Reef on The Discovery Channel or National Geo not too long ago. Right away I saw that this had "bad idea" written all over it.

What is wrong with them making money? It is what our system is based on and what has allowed this country to become great. More refineries and platforms equal more jobs, it is a win for the oil companies and the workers. Seems like a positive to me!

Again the possibility to make money is what drives us to try new things. It is predictable that the left does not have warm and fuzzy feelings for anyone in the oil industry, after all they are evil!

The idea of a presidential candidate taking our foriegn policy to the Germans for approval doesn't sit well with me. It is one thing to oppose the war and call for immediate withdrawal on the Senate floor. It is another thing entirely to call for an end to the Iraq war in Berlin.

Yesterday I said that I wasn't too worried about an Obama presidency. I may have miscalculated a bit.

It is one thing for a POTUS to base his policy on the whim of domestic polls. Though it doesn't show real leadership, it seems to be the prevailing style of most US politicians.

The idea of a POTUS seeking to guide policy based on world opinion is nothing short of disasterous.

his lckeys will use this ridiculous show of support, which is almost 100% about Iraq, as some sort of world call for Obama as president. I just can't believe our medi has acted like complete school children over it.

Do you think the American public would've supported a decision to go to war based on stabilizing the Middle East? Do you think troops would've been as fired up to go over there and fight so that we could stabilize the economies of some Middle Eastern countries?

The troops get fired up to fight because that is what they are trained to do. It is natural for us to want to put into practice something we have been trained for, to see how you stack up. This is really more about the American public than anything else. Public opinion is the real driver here.

I'm saying it's understandable why people would be wary of increased oil production off their shores with the potential for more incidents like this one (which I'm sure you're aware of):

It's easier for someone in Arkansas or Tennessee or Kentucky to call for more drilling than someone who actually lives near the coast and whose livelihood depends on not having oil spills.

Stabilizing the middle east to reduce threats of terrorism? Absoulutely.
