If Gruden simply changed his mind about wanting to be the next head coach at UT, those in this thread in a position to know could just say that very thing and clear it up for the rest of us. Yet here we are, still asking the question.

Your response assumes that Gruden is coming and they've held off on an announcement for some mysterious reason that has to do with him finishing at ESPN. My response assumes no such thing.

So you're saying he wants to wait to even decide until after mnf? Still my answer would be yes.

Hire Pruitt and it's pretty much garunteed we will be back in a coaching search.

Waiting is at least you get a 50/50 chance of gruden. Then he would have to know if he says no, how much damaged he caused a program he loved.

Most successful people have risked everything they have on taking that next step..

Somebody doesn't get it.

The average salary of the top 10 coaches by pay is roughly $7 million. The lowest is $5.1M. The top five is $8 million.

If you aren't willing to pay that for a top notch coach then you have no interest in being a top 10 program. And when your working on salary ranges between $2 and $3M less than the top 10 average you are going to be a long way from hiring a top tier coach.

I'm sure they have offered more for Gruden; however, Petersen only makes $4.1M base. He's worth twice that. If UT only offers him a $900K increase, just as an example, forget about it. Why would he bother uprooting his life for that. When Fulmer put $7 or $8 million on the table when he talked to Petersen? We will never know, but I seriously doubt it or the conversation lasts longer than it did.

And the last time I checked I think UT's football revenues were at or near the top, just like they have always been. And they approve a 340-360 million dollar renovation but they can't hire a coach??? Where does that tell you the problem lies??? Anyone with a brain doesn't blame that on a fan base or facilities or the great tradition and the all-americans that have played there. You blame it where it lies, at the footstep of a administration that has a HORRIBLE PR problem with it's fan and ignores it own problems of greed and control. That is the PROBLEM and it dang well better get fixed!

If Fulmer didn't offer Petersen 8 mil, he needs to be fired.

I haven’t been around here for a little bit but go ahead and take a look at my tweets starting Sunday with the Schiano disaster (Do you think I own a crystal ball?)

I just don't understand how the Schiano debacle killed the Gruden deal... We didn't hire him. The fans stopped the hire, we got rid of Currie, Fulmer took over and Haslam lost a good deal of influence.... If it was a sure thing before, why is it not now? Seems like everything is set up perfectly for him to pull the trigger.
