Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIX

Not sure what all the frown faces are for. Pruitt would be a great hire imo. Doug Dickey was a UF grad. Did very well at Tennessee. Started three traditions that live on today - Checkerboard end zone, Power T decal on the helmet and Pride of the Southland band forming the T to run out of the tunnel. If it's Pruitt give him a shot. If you haven't done your research on him I would recommend that you do so. He's a football junkie and knows what it will take to win in the SEC.

Interesting info from VQ

“coastal22 said: ↑
Matches what others have heard. Never got a definitive No from JG yesterday. And yesterday was the deadline. So pursuit of others obviously ramped. And they seem ready to move on with Pruitt or whoever having never gotten the response of No (which inherently means no "yes"). Hopefully JG doesn't bother showing up at any more games if he took it that far and every demand/counter was met to then not respond...and keep going about his other business.”

Haslam was around I doubt this was even close to true

Does it feel like we're stalling?

I’ll say this about whoever the coach is. After thinking about it, I look at Dabo at Clemson. Yeah he’s a bama player but who cares? He’s leaving his legacy at Clemson. Th Scott Frosts of the world who are young up and comers may want to coach their alma mater and leave a UCF. But most guys want to create their own legacy. And there’s not much of one left at Bama. After Bear and Saban, what’s left? When he leaves, that’ll be the hardest job to win the fans over because you’ll constantly be compared to the last guy. Off topic but just a random thought.

Good perspective. I.e. our Lady Vols and Holly following Pat.

You just said Tennessee is the same as UMass if he comes here.

At the end of your dynasty, where did you want to end up? Exactly where Pruitt is at.

If he wants to end up at Bama, he better win a title here, so that's fine by me.
He is a Bammer, but people are crazy if they think Pruitt won't be all in at UT. He wants to win, if he wants another job like Bama, then he has to win big, so that's fine by me.

Another thought: He has seen Tennessee at it's best, played in Neyland when it was working and we whipped them. That means, unlike the last 3 guys, he knows what has and can happen at UT and that this isn't an expansion team and he doesn't need to build anything, but needs to build ON 125 years. May mean nothing, but at least he has been around on the other end when UT was a power.

We probably don't want the truth..it will make it worse

I feel you. Part of me wants to know if we really had a shot at Gruden, while the other part of me doesn't want to know if we were so close and managed to screw it up again.

SC...is this a coach that has to be sold to the fans? It feels that way.

I am afraid so. I think a big part of the problem is that the temporary euphoria we all felt last Friday may have masked how deep the issues in the AD and booster structure are. Make no mistake it was significant and we are moving the right direction but like it or not many coaches dont want to get tied up in this mess. We don’t even know how long Coach is going to be the AD. I’m not going to give the pep talk as it is up to each of you going forward.

Didn’t think about her but that’s another one. Plus, I don’t think Holly is all that good of a coach. Jmo... Phil needs to head over to SC and bring another VFL home.

I agree, while I would love to land the whale...I actually like what I am seeing and hearing about Pruitt.

I know not everyone will get on board, and I might be wrong, but I do know that if the Vols are winning Championships in a few years, we will look back and say good hire Coach F. If we are losing, it will equally fall on his shoulders.

I am going to support whoever we hire until they give me reason on the field not to.

GO VOLS!

Couldn’t have said it better.

I have doubts he can get it done but if by some chance he gets it done he will be the guy in Tennessee until he doesent want to be.

***I will always have that worry of him pulling a Kiffin**

I’ll throw this out there, I have no inside info.

Maybe Gruden said No yesterday, and it was it a fairly hard no. But Fulmer said hold a second, let me go back to the board one more time...and see if we can get you what you want.... but I’m tied up with this PM celebration thing to get anything done today.

Might explain why it’s been so quiet today. If we were so close to Pruitt/Tucker/Steele...why wouldn’t be signed, sealed, delivered this morning.

Gruden to The Hill, until the Hill crumbles!

I am tired of hearing all this Pruitt talk in the Gruden thread, it's really depressing, if you think it's Pruitt, go to one of the Pruitt threads, there are plenty to choose from.
This thread is for the hopeful, and positive thoughts about our beloved footballprogram.
We all want the same thing, a Great Coach that will have put team fighting for championships, I don't know who that will be, and no one else on here knows. But go start a negative Nancy thread somewhere else, because this is the Jon Gruden thread, where anything could happen!
I may not have a great post count, but O have been on this board for a while, and have had a lot of fun in here. It helps me pass the time while I'm away from family, friends, and the great state of TN.
So please go somewhere else if all you are trying to do is shove things down other people's throats that they don't want to hear.
I'd rather stay positive and hope for the best, then expect the the worse.
Time to step down from my soapbox and go back to lurking.

You've got a good point, Beals!
Back when we all had hope, we would tell NegaGrudes to STFU and GTFO!
I know some of y'all were also burned in 2012! I was a believer then, also, but I was a member of another board back in those days! I got laughed at, but kept the faith until the bitter end!
I love most of y'all, but some of you need to heed your own advice and GTFO! :)
If you have nothing positive to add, and want to talk about f*****g Pruitt, then do it in another thread!
But I still believe, until it ain't Gruden, but it aint aint yet!

It appears JG simply did not respond according to those on VQ....but they believe the deadline passed and we have moved on.

“JBH_vol2014 said: ↑
So we matched every counter and he just failed to respond? He won’t coach again if he truly flirted that much and then acted that way. What a load of crap. Pruitt and an elite staff will be just fine.”

BTW, apparently on the Dan Patrick show, even Patrick said today if it was that close with Gruden then the big $ boosters do what it takes so Fulmer can close the deal. I didn’t hear so I can’t validate, maybe someone else can?
