Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIX

If not Gruden, I think there were better options than Pruitt. I just hate the thoughts of a life long bammer leading the Vols. I would have been OK with Miles. But who knows, maybe, and I hope so, he will be successful and decide to change his colors. (to Orange of course.):)

Same same! Miles was my #2 with a VFL highly paid staff...

That would get me to open my wallet

That sounds like Tee knew of the new meeting with Gruden that was happening over the weekend. Gruden said no, so it sounds like Tee is out. Dang it.

If it's real there are probably only 5 people that know what Gruden said. It would be easy to find out who spilled the beans. Do you really think with one of the biggest hires in college football history that people involved are going to run out from the meeting saying he said yes he said yes!

We’ve tried. It’s not as simple as you like to believe.

It may not be that simple, but if you want to be the powerhouse we should be, which I'll assume being on the board you love the vols like most of us do, then we need to not take no for an answer. When you see all these schools fire somebody and then go and take somebody else's head coach, we should be doing that. FSU lost their coach, then went and stole the ducks coach. Texas A&M fired theirs, then went and took FSU's. I want Gruden to be coach, but if he's not, we don't need to just go the cheap high risk route. We need to make sure this one is a homerun.

I told y’all it would be Thursday or Friday based on a conversation with guys in the AD but maybe it will be today. Who knows.

Want to get in the generic question of "are you happy with who you're hearing?" before you get inundated with questions for specifics.

Just call it and give him a ton of money for assistance since you so willingly screwed out of a great hire with a hopes and dreams

Boro,

I joined this forum to partake in this thread, but I have especially enjoyed what you have brought to this place. You believed just as hard as anyone else here, and that's why most, if not all, of everyone here appreciate you. You never left us hanging nor did you leave when things got rough. Win or lose, I'm glad I was a part of it this go around. All you guys and gals are pretty ok in my book.

Yeah...if we're going bargain basement shopping, let it be our guys. I can be patient with that, knowing it means something to them, and that they'll pass that on. Sure I'd prefer that over a a Bammer, or an Ohio carpetbagger like Schiano. If we're not swinging big, at least take care of our identity.

I’m with you on this, if we’re going cheap I could live with something like Steele HC/Martin OC AHC.

I think Pruitt could get some results, but let’s just say he’s succesful, and when Saban retire in 3 years what names would pop up Swinney and Pruitt. While it seems no brainer Swinney right now, his gig at Clemson is pretty damn good also.

And if he’s no successful, then you have to live with..well that’s what you get for hiring a Bammer.

Pruitt won’t be here past 5 years IMO.

I can get on board with that. He's not Orange, but would be open to Orange staff members. I've bee. Saying for days/ weeks, that he is the most highly qualified guy out there based on resume.

I wish I knew what had happened there.

I am tired of hearing all this Pruitt talk in the Gruden thread, it's really depressing, if you think it's Pruitt, go to one of the Pruitt threads, there are plenty to choose from.
This thread is for the hopeful, and positive thoughts about our beloved footballprogram.
We all want the same thing, a Great Coach that will have put team fighting for championships, I don't know who that will be, and no one else on here knows. But go start a negative Nancy thread somewhere else, because this is the Jon Gruden thread, where anything could happen!
I may not have a great post count, but O have been on this board for a while, and have had a lot of fun in here. It helps me pass the time while I'm away from family, friends, and the great state of TN.
So please go somewhere else if all you are trying to do is shove things down other people's throats that they don't want to hear.
I'd rather stay positive and hope for the best, then expect the the worse.
Time to step down from my soapbox and go back to lurking.

Hey bud hope you are doing well. The short answer is no but I don’t know if what I am hearing is fact or not. Outside of maybe 2 people I would not be happy anyway.

If Pruitt is the guy, can we at least go out and get the best damn assistants available? We need people who can recruit and develop players.

You say that, but this isn't really always the case. I'm not saying I want Pruitt, but typically coaches try harder to beat their alma mater, friends, etc.

Think about it this way... when you played NCAA Football 14 dynasty starting out at a school like UMass and Tennessee happened to be on your schedule, you tried like hell to beat them, right? Same thing in real life.

You just said Tennessee is the same as UMass if he comes here.

At the end of your dynasty, where did you want to end up? Exactly where Pruitt is at.

Hey now with the carpetbagger stuff...

But I agree fully. If we’re looking for a bargain up and comer, then our guys should top the list.

NOBODY KNOWS !!!! We have heard from every insider, sports reporter and best friend of a cousin out there and it is obvious the only people that know for sure are not telling. We are what we are, a school that has lost its identity and is desparately looking to the past and hoping for the best. VFL, Bamer, HC, OC, DC, east coast ,west coast, wide open, close to the vest, take your pick. We could bring back the greatest coaches of all time and somebody would have a b#tch with them.

A splash hire would be great but if he didn't "SPLASH" big wins we will want him gone just as fast as anybody else. The leadership is not there and hasn't been for over a decade and if you want something else to get riled about the big booster that help get us here is setting up another member of the family to be President of the University after Dipetro since he will not be running for public office anytime soon. This is what we have to look forward to.

If we are ever going to get out of this mess now is the time and it is running out fast. The ones that want the power are just as powerful overall as they were last week and don't fool yourself thinking they aren't.

The new power players are getting their chance. If it goes bown the tubes who do you think will fill in the void once again. That is exactly how they did it when Dicky and Johnson retired. They had the money, the friends and more importantly the want too.
