Recruiting Forum Football Talk LI

No big time coaches wanted the job. Yes there was the Leach talk but that would have required us to have John Currie leading the AD and I would rather have Fulmer doing that. Currie was an arrogant a$$ and I’m not totally sold he would have gotten leach. Why did he wait so long to call him? Why does the legend Bill Snyder despise him? Why did he run off frank Martin? Sure Currie may have brought Leach in but Leach May have quickly grown to hate him just like every other coach that has had to deal with Currie.

Tee is far more than a consolation. He’s one of if not the best recruiter in the country. Steele is 60 years old. Maybe he coaches for 5 years and Tee takes over once he’s experienced. I think that could actually work out really well.

Steele’s record at Baylor doesn’t mean too much to me. Tennessee is a different caliber of job where he can hire ace staff members and recruit really well. But he’s going to have to be allowed to prove he can do that. If the fans don’t support him then he will definitely fail. I’m willing to trust Fulmer and his hire and give it a couple years. BUT that’s all contingent on the staff he surrounds himself with.

That is not the point. The point is that we should not be hiring a coach who "might" be better than 9-36 with a better support structure. We should be hiring a coach who is a known good commodity.

Leach wouldn't have required a particular AD, but, aside from him, there are many other coaches out there who would be better than Steele. The fact that the best realistic coaches available were obviously not considered is troubling.

I won't take any more after the past decade, followed by the past weeks of this embarrassing coaching search, then shoveling another deuce of a coach onto my plate and telling me to eat up.

Why are y'all so bleek over here. Just my opinion but I don't think any of the DC names we have heard are being interviewed for HC.

When you really look at it, if its really down to Steele and Tucker you know CF is going to hire his buddy. We might as well keep the cups on for one more last YOUGE kick in the nuts.

Our final three candidates are Pruitt, Tucker, and Steele, with Tee in there somewhere, probably as an OC and not HC (bye Newt!)

Really hope this source for Brice's article is right:

“I like (Pruitt’s) grind! He will be relentless,” a veteran SEC staffer who’s had personal interactions with the three candidates receiving second interviews told me off-the-record. “I agree with (Pruitt being considered) for all the reasons (mentioned). "I like Tucker A LOT too. I’ve met him a few times and always walked away very impressed. I think those two can be great, I think Steele, in my opinion, is the clear 3rd.”

I'm afraid we are going to all realize that Phil has caught the proverbial tiger by the tail. Finally has what he has coveted for years, but now doesn't know what to do with it.

Hyams said we had interviewed a bunch of people today why is everyone slitting your wrists. If we've learned anything this last two weeks its not to believe the rumors.

I would at least have hope with Tucker. I think Pruitt would explode in flames given his track record, but at least could recruit som, it doesn't sound like Venables is a real option. Steele is the equivalent to a funeral. We would immediately have the 14th best HC in the conference.
