The last thing the university needs is a stabilizing hire. Steele is not going to bring in 4 and 5* recruits when they have so many other options. We will get slaughtered in recruiting and on the field. The program will be in such a bad place after he is fired we will have to go back to begging people like Dooley to take the job.

I'll just say this...it's really disappointing as a fan and supporter to take Phil seriously if he puts in Kevin Steele as head coach. I can spit out all the stats but I wouldn't be surprised if UT struggles to sell tickets. I could see a lot of people walking away...I've been disappointed many a time by UT and their idiocy running this program. I know everyone has gone on and on about Phil getting this right and being the figure they "trust" but honestly...how are you going to sell 18 or 19 year olds on a Kevin Steele? I'd rather have Mike Leach---fit be damned...at least football would be fun.
.

Jumping to conclusions - it's the VN way.

Tomorrow will be a lot more interesting when we get more solid reports on who UT met with while in NYC.

So, you're saying there's a chance?!

Atleast our season ticket prices will be at rock bottom after a few years due to everyone not buying with Steele as coach... I'm waiting on Steele at the podium to not renew mine... It'll be cheaper to rebuy and probably upgrade, so that's one positive.

Fulmer is smart enough to know how a Kevin Steele hire would look both nationally and locally. Hubbs keeps pounding that name because it's the fallback. Schiano was the fallback in the first phase of the search as well. Let's hope that Fulmer does not panic like Currie and immediately jump on his fallback. Every candidate mentioned since Fulmer has taken over (with the exception of Petersen) should want this job. Any coordinator should want to be HC at Tennessee. That's a huge jump in a career that is unattainable for most.

Sources tell @FootballScoop that Fordham (FCS - NY) head coach Andrew Breiner is joining Joe Moorhead at Mississippi State as passing game coordinator / QBs coach

Big time get. That offense will be very good.

Mullen left a good team for Moorhead next season. They'll be preseason top 15.

I just got back to NYC yesterday, too, and no one has interviewed me for the position yet. Will update when Tennessee takes this search more seriously.

Let's looks at the offenses Mel Tucker went against this year:

From best to worst:

Missouri ranked 10
Auburn ranked 15
Notre Dame ranked 27
Appalachian State ranked 31
Georgia Tech ranked 97
Kentucky ranked 105
Vanderbilt ranked 106
South Carolina ranked 112
Florida ranked 123
Tennessee ranked 125
Samford unranked

Are you still impressed with Mel?

Lazy argument. NCAA website stats for total offense and scoring offense are different from yours FWIW.

Regardless, UGA's D was a serious factor in determining the final ranking of the offenses listed. In addition, you are not factoring the schedules of the opponents you list. Do you mean to suggest that Memphis and UCF could do the same things against the SEC? They were both top 5 in both categories. Just curious.

Mel Tucker's credentials speak for themselves.

Is Steele even that good of a DC and recruiter? Who has he recruited other than the list given by Hyams 20 years ago? Grasping at straws here..
