Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

If it's not Gruden, then Les coupled with Tee gives Fulmer the best chance to rally the fans. I know some don't agree with Les, but he is the most proven realistic candidate out there.

i tend to agree with you, but it's hard for me to remove the emotional tie to it.

logically, Fulmer should make the decision that he thinks is in the best interest of the program, and fan reaction shouldn't be a determining factor.

i don't think he can do that at this point because of what has happened the last two weeks. he has to at least consider it.

you don't want to have to start apologizing for, or having to sell, the new coach at the introductory press conference....:)

I agree, one way or another everybody needs closure.

AMEN!

And with that my friends, I am out. This entire debacle has taken a toll on me in every way. My work, my health, and my time with family. I have spent far too much time and energy with all of this.

I just can't keep doing this. I cannot continue to be teased by this coach or that coach or this rumor or that rumor. When it's finally announced, I will come back and join some discussions. But I just can't keep doing this day after day. Call me a fair weather fan, call me whatever, but there are things more important than UT football. When something begins taking a large part of your life, it has to be evaluated as to the benefits of that particular thing. For me, the toll is greater right now than the benefits.

Peace friends. I pray one last time for a top coach and staff who can restore our beloved football program.

If I based improvement off the info provided he’s not any good. Anyone can recruit to Tennessee Butch and Dooley proved that.

If Miles was dead set on the old school why in the world would it be out there that hes chatted with Tee and in turn Tee told Phil he’d return to Tennessee if Les or Gruden were the pick...

I get it people want thier guy and have thier reasons but there is no way Phil can risk a hire like that or his career and the coaches will likely end before they even get going good

Dooley didn't:crazy:

All of this is why my faith in Gruden is all but gone. He has spent a decade enjoying the role of being the hottest "available" coach on the market. I am not sure he wants to risk his legend by taking over our mess right now. I believe he loves Tennessee but not enough to put himself or his family under the scrutiny that would come from taking the job. We have built him up to be a superhero that would equal instant success and he could very well be but there would be very little tolerance for any failure. I am sure he is aware of all of this and I'm afraid that's why he will end up turning us down.

I see us ending up with either a young up and comer looking for his first big job with something to prove or an out of work older veteran who just wants to coach again and isn't really worried about proving anything.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade or sway opinions. This is just where I'm at and hope I am once again dead wrong.

Well done. This has always been in the back of my head. You’ve done a very good job of succinctly putting it into words.

I fear that he is afraid of failure and ridicule like all big egos. Maybe I’m wrong. The other side of big ego is the need to stay relevant. He’s nearing the end of his time to be relevant in the coaching world. Gah! This is maddening.

To my volnation family,
I came home from the whole thing with my mom passing (coroner's and funeral home loading her body and trying to find all the pertinent info to take to the FH this morning) and sat down with my laptop, just to get on the board for a little distraction.

I was absolutely overwhelmed with the outpouring of support i received in this thread. absolutely stunned. i cried reading your posts, but it was a different sort of tears than i'd been shedding. i don't know what to say. thank you seems so feeble.

well, gotta go take care of business. dread it. gonna be a long week. we will have some arrangements in SC, then transported to hometown TN for service and burial.

please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

preacherwebb

This thread was and is always about hope. It is what binds this family together. We are here for you and still praying.

Nothing wrong with your opinion, but while we have issues with depth and coaching there is talent on this team. And look back at what Saban inherited, that roster was way low on talent. Much lower than ours and look what he did in short order. Gruden would recruit just as well. Many of our problems were terrible coaching decisions and coaches not being able to develop talent. Our players didn't have no x and o guidance at all. Just my thoughts. SOON! Get GRUDEN!

WO, you are right. My faith in the current situation and someone turning this around quickly is waning at the moment and I needed something to pump it up. Thanks !

Sry Boro, I just hate the let’s beg Brohm crap.

Why beg someone who won’t live up to his end of the deal

If he was that good wouldn’t it be feesable that he should be better than 12-6 at Purdue?

Smh. He took a Purdue program that won NINE games the previous 4 years...COMBINED and had them to 6, shooting for 7 in year 1. Lost to Wiscy by 8. That is like taking the 90s Vandy team and getting them to a bowl in year 1 while taking UT to the wire.

I'm willing to go through 2 more weeks of suffering if we end up with Gruden in the end. Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it!

So, are they just going to trot someone out there today/tomorrow, or are we going to get some good quality leaks before then?????

Well sure, not even close. One is a disaster waiting to happen (old dude with HC in waiting = conflict) vs a young superstar.

The bottom line though is Fulmer isn't going to hire someone that runs this type of offense. Like was said earlier, we're going the direction where we will be using an archaic offensive philosophy. Fulmer doesn't want to win 52 to 28. He wants to win 21 to 17.

Though I will say this. As much film as Gruden has watched over the past 10 years I bet he's built a playbook of epic proportions that will utilize the old stuff that still works with the new age stuff borne out of the spread offenses. The things he could do with a college offense (that he wouldn't be able to use as much in the pros) would be a sight to behold.

You sure? It’s still not showing on his post history. (Sorry if already addressed; endlessly playing catch-up.)

I choose to believe that silence by AtlantaVol and others, awkward silences on MNF, plus mysterious disappearances by certain posters indicates that good news is about to happen.

That’s just me though. I’m an optimist by nature.

Yeah I saw it

Got a call from the third base coach from Phil's grandsons baseball team, and he told me they have hired a coach and who it was.

Once it is announced I'll let everyone know if I have accurate inside information.

Edit

Don't forget to like this post.

Fulmers statement at his presser was like any politician. Make a lot of promises, tell the people what they want to hear and gain support. But then once you get in office and realize what you’re up against, some of the things you said just can’t be realized. I think Fulmer is seeing first hand the combined damage of the Botch Jones era and Schianogate. Hence we’re settling for Morris or Steele. Miles teamed up with Tee seems to be the best option to me. Retread U. 😕

I'm glad you'll be happy if he is the choice. Support him. He'll need it.

I won't.
