Recruiting Discussion

Sick of the 4 and 5 star talk. NBA is full of 3 stars. But my point every time CRB signs a player he is bashed. Our team is pretty balanced. One of the announcers said our team is built like Wichita State. Hell of a compliment. I love our team. And yes I would love a 5 star NBA center. But I like 4 year players.

As a poster that was negative about Barnes I will say watching this team makes me no longer care about recruiting. I don't care who we add for next year because I believe in these players and these coaches now.

Oh I am still here.

How's that Alexander vs Walker competition going for minutes??

Very happy with Alexander, he’s been a pleasant surprise this year for sure. Both are a key part of the first ranked team Tennessee has had in 7 years, who’d have thunk retirement Rick would pull that off.

I will say this I never accused him of the lazy thing. I just thought his coaching style had been passed by. Glad To be wrong at this point

The development of Alexander (and Walker and Williams) makes me wonder how much improved Kasongo and McGhee would be had they stuck around. Or even Tariq Owens and Willie Carmichael if going way back.

Yep. They all will develop. I wish Pons was getting a hair more action but he will be fine as long as he stays patient

Just helps you see it was not Barnes

AuntieDee has gone silent. I don't know if I'd want her back offering up details or not. I guess I'd like to hear more, but it would only be coming from the Jabari camp so other than stirring the pot, it wouldn't bring much to the forum. Kasongor as well. Tariq's dad even had some things to spew once... don't recall if it was here.

Is McGhee playing anywhere? I did not see him on WKy roster

I think he has the status of unable to physically perform which (I think) allows him to continue pursuing his degree and not counting against WKU's scholarship limit. I think that his basketball career is over unless he's trying another transfer... but that may not even be possible given whatever his medical issue happens to be. I hope he's doing well. One of my favorites that didn't pan out for whatever reason. He had Fulkerson-like energy.

Owens was a personal favorite of mine. Very, very similar to Alexander. Almost carbon copy to be honest. As I recall, his,dad was always pretty cordial here.

McGee had a motor for sure, but Owens seemed to have one as well to go along with his height.

A senior Owens, developed by Barnes, on this team would have been awesome. Not sure, though, who we wouldn't have had he stayed.

I have a feeling we land Simmons. And if Jalen Johnson transfers (most likely to transfer imo), we will land another 4* I bet.

It should be easier to land an excellent wing with what looks like an opportunity for minutes and now a core of posts and points in supporting roles. The competition for minutes is Schofield (will be a senior), Johnson, and Pons. 3 of the 4 sophomore are smallish at their spots... Bowden has good size for a 2 but a little small for a 3.

TN is a great opportunity for a 6'7" scorer that can step outside. Pons and Fulk are looking to be more comfortable in the paint.

It's time to sign an Ernie G or Dale Ellis type of player.

I don't recall Dale Ellis being the outside shooter while at UT....that appeared to develop in the NBA and when the 3 point shot was created. I remember Ellis being a warrior in the paint while in college, but that was a long time ago and my memory is definitely not as sharp as it once was! Would be interesting how the rest of the "mature" forum guys remembered Ellis' college game.

Pretty sure, u are correct. I believe Ellis had a great mid-range shot, too, while he was here, but rarely took what would be considered a NBA 3-pointer at UT. Of course, the college game didn't have a 3-point line at all back then.
