Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVII

I don't get why you all are hung up on Gruden. What has he done to be labeled a sure thing?

there is no sure thing, ever. But Gruden gives UT the highest probability of odds to rejuvenate and rebuild the program in the shortest amount of time due to his "rock star" status among High School Athletes. In college football vs the NFL, its less about the X's and O's and more about the athletes on the field.

Sara can you provide the addresses and timing of where emails and posts need to be directed.
The volnation tsunami can be initiated to protect our great university, this hire, and coach Fulmer if need be.
I agree with other posts that this action needs to be very prudently invoked, so as to not lose its impact.
If those in the know deem it necessary, the big orange bastion will be ready for battle

For me personally, I'm done e-warrioring for now.

If Haslam rears his ugly head again, I'll be willing to help slap him down. But the soldier's mantra goes: sleep when you can, eat when you can, clean weapons when you can, because you don't know when you're gonna get another chance.

Why can’t the announcement be Tuesday? There will be a four hour CFP playoff selection show today on ESPN. Seems like today is not the best day for max attention. Monday is probably out. Tuesday seems more logical.

At this point does anyone care about winning the exposure/press conference? In 5 minutes it's forgotten about anyway.

Morning

Still trying to keep up with everything here. I have been working like a rented mule for the past week and have not been able to post very much.

I just wanted to point out a couple of things regarding PF's coaching search. I know we are hearing a lot about Miles right now but I do not think a hire is imminent.

During PF's press conference he directly addressed the need for everyone to come together and work as a team to all pull together to be part of the solution. I believe that he will vet a number of candidates over the next few days. I also trust that he will consult others to include boosters and VFLs to make sure we have ongoing cooperation after the hire. I cannot see him rushing to grab a coach as he knows the impact of a rash decision.

Based on the information that is out there and the continued reference to the boosters and their engagement of CJG as part of the initial search, I think Gruden will be the first fishing trip.

Besides the information we receive on this site, there are two valid recent indicators that CJG continues been in play:

....The Count Haslamovich stories
....The CBS Sports article that came out early last Sunday morning stating that CJG was in play.

I think PF will continue to build a list and vet other potential hires until a name is on the dotted line. But I truly believe that CJG will have to say no thank you before we move on to other options.

Keep the faith folks. If this does not happen it will not be PF's fault. It will lie squarely on the shoulders of HoH and his minions for undermining the CJG negotiations last Sunday.

Take Care,

CH_V
copper, when you make more please let me know,

Yea, I still think that announcing it the day before MNF would be in bad taste, for lack of a better phrase, but it would HAVE to be done.

The hurt feelings and backlash would pass.

However, an announcement during MNF of "I'll be stepping down after this year and will resume coaching" will drive the media into a frenzy trying to figure out where he goes.

Yea, I'm not gonna give him too hard a time, like I said, I get it.

I don't blame him for being concerned on who the coach will be. It was just the attitude I got from that statement.

It'll all work itself out.

I believe Coach Matthews spoke about this a week or 2 ago on his show about his attitude. I think he was penalized quite a bit.

Some would say that's a problem. Others would say he plays with intensity.

Last night there was a lot of "smoke" that we caught the "white whale?" Is that still the vibe this morning?

What ticks me is there is always articles about the other "candidates" but never anything about Gru. If nothing else why can't we at least get an article or two that says we are talking with him. Most people don't even believe that Gruden is even remotely in play because none of the "media" will give it the time of day.

Gruden to the Hill!

Damn soon!

As long as it isn't to the Browns! That would be the ultimate slap in the face.

Copperhead, I share your hope, brother. But don't read Ms Celina's blogs (the Vampire one being most recent) as any kind of insider info. She takes the collective wisdom of these boards and word smiths it into an interesting tale. That's all.

Put differently: she has all the same "insiders" as the rest of us. She's just very good at stringing them together in a fun-to-read way.

This is one of those cases where we're all in a huge echo chamber, and things that we've heard said come back to us again later from a different source. It's easy to believe they confirm the earlier info, when in truth they ARE the earlier info...repeated.

Now, the CBS Sports article a week ago was, while dated, an interesting development. One that hopefully isn't completely overcome by events since.

Go Vols!

I can agree with this. He don’t sound ALL VOL to me

And why should he right now? We've sucked and 2 of the 3 teams he's choosing between have a chance to win a national title. By no means am I saying a guy should be hired for 1 recruit, but bring in miles an Tee and you'll have guys for sure wanting to come here. With our offensive line problems over the last 5 years, I'll absolutely take Cade mays. He will be a day one starter like trey smith.

Ftr, cade wants a reason to come here, but we haven't necessarily given him a reason over the last year. Surprised he stayed committed as long as he did. I'm completely for gruden, but I would be ok with a Les and tee martin ran offense.

IMO this is not an attitude we should take. I wouldn't like to 'settle' because someone is 'less bad'.

Oh, I don't want to 'settle'. I could name 5 coaches I'd clean the pee trough in Neyland with my bare hands if it meant getting them over Miles. I'm saying that if that's where it ended, because you can't make someone come here if they don't want to, he'd be a solid hire. And it isn't a secret who my #1 choice is...I mean...look what thread I'm in.

Wow... this is really weird. Usually I’m on night crew. Not today, I’m on morning crew! Couldn’t party last night because well, Friday was too much! Lol

Agree completely. That was my point. Let’s be ready but rally only if needed
