Several more than 4 though I think.

It's like, I want Gruden, but.....but....I guess it'll be ok.

No one was ready for last Sunday. Anyone who says they were is lying. I don't think VolNation truly realizes how close we came to disaster. Without the leak from inside the AD when Currie got on the plane to Ohio, we would be sunk.

No one should make any assumptions about Gruden. He is the first choice, and he has not said no. Fulmer will sell him hard, and we will just have to see.

Edit: not disagreeing with knuck at all, just saying that it's entirely possible that Gruden re-evaluated things after last Sunday.

Wish we knew who it was. They deserve a statue on campus.

According to what's-his face, 'everybody' is tired of hearing about Gruden. If he didn't come in here, he wouldn't have to 'hear' it.

He made it clear he wants time to coach little league and be with the grandkids and family..

IMO Heavy is looking to stabilize everything and get it going in the right direction, then sit back and enjoy it...he doesn't want 18hr days for the next 2-5 years. If he can solidify everything immediately why not do it?

I think the term control has been misunderstood. I think Gruden would just like a big say and somebody he could be on the same page with. That happens a lot better with Fulmer than Currie. And no way Haslam will have any say in athletics after this. I don't know for sure if he takes it, but I think the path is now clear for it too happen. I think Gruden has known the obstacles for way to long to let what happened this week with Currie and Haslam to make him not take it. If anything it might make him consider it more now that he knows he has a man in charge that is committed to football and it's operations. In other words a good working relationship. I don't think the media crap will make a bit of difference to him, the media crap blows and disappers like the wind. They are 95% full of hot air, and Gruden has been on opposite sides with ESPN for quite awhile on that front. Great coaches don't listen to media nor let them make their decisions for them. Just my opinion.

Paul Newberry hates UT.

Access Denied

He should be torched for many things in his "OP" but this takes the cake:

Already trailing badly to the likes of Georgia, Auburn and Alabama, the Volunteers have plummeted even further in the past week with their ludicrous attempts to get someone, anyone – Bueller? Bueller? – to take over a team that won a national title less than two decades ago (it seems a lot longer) and boasts a stadium with more than 100,000 seats (many of them no longer occupied by people wearing that hideous orange attire).

"hideous orange attire" how's that VolNation?

That's some objective journalism.

That is infuriating but I did chuckle at the 'Bueller? Bueller?' part.

From OldVol74 on VQ.. interesting post

"Apply a little logic here people.

You have a rabid fan base clamoring for a particular guy to be your head coach. Not just your everyday, garden variety clamoring, but pandemonium clamoring. Desire, that were it not to be followed through on, would likely derail your entire strategy for anyone else you pursue. So, you make the obligatory run at the guy and leak that he said thanks, but no thanks. Maybe you even ask the guy to make a throw away comment on his MNF broadcast.

Rumors are put to rest and you move on to your legitimate target.

Now, here's what happened. A group of very influential boosters and former players worked the back channels. One booster has his name on the training center. Gruden was prepared to accept and was already putting together a staff. Currie, for the same reason as in 2012, to placate another big money booster, torpedoed it because he owed his job and, he felt, his security to the other Big Dog named Haslam.

Now, if you doubt this, and you buy the line that some of the company guys fed, that they met in Tampa and Gruden said no, then ask yourself this question; why was Gruden's exact details not leaked to certain cooperating media members like Schiano and Gundy's details were leaked, down to the dollar.

Why wasn't Mullen's detailed offer leaked?

For the same reason Gruden's numbers were never leaked by the media. There was never an official offer made to either Mullen or Gruden by the university. The only numbers you've heard from the Gruden deal were leaked by insiders.

The CBS leak Sunday Morning was a controlled leak by the boosters working on Gruden.

I'm not making this CBS report up, google it.

In the meantime, doing Jim's bidding, Currie makes an end run around the other boosters and springs Schiano on them. The Schiano leak was made by the other boosters who wanted Gruden. Never could they have imagined the outcry.

Now, if you believe the guy who painted the rock and a handful of vocals down at gate 21 got this thing torpedoed, then you may want to stay up late Christmas Eve and watch the fireplace. This was stopped by very influential people both on the booster side, who were infuriated because they had been backstabbed at the eleventh hour, and by politicians.

Now, would Gruden still accept? Who knows?

But anyone saying that the actions of the last 6 days wouldn't make any candidate step back because of all of the negative national media, then you're not being fair. If Gruden accepted now, he'd be burning every bridge with the media group he works for because they've spent the last 6 days saying what a bunch of losers we are.

Believe what you will. I've been around this program a long time and it’s been my privilege to meet a lot of very influential folks."

Originally, I was on the Gruden train. But the problem with this conspiracy is that originally MIT, Bubba, and others in the know all said that Gruden was a done deal and that the major boosters only had to convince UT we could do this. That was before Butch was fired.

After Butch was fired they changed their story into we had to convince Gruden to take the job. Either the original conspiracy was untrue from the beginning or the major players that were pushing the Gruden train were just as incompetent as the UT administration.

Another fact brought to this board was that Gruden was using Haslam’s plane to go wherever he wanted. Then we hear that Haslam and Currie did not even want Gruden because of the control issues.

Well, Haslam and Currie are out of the way. What is keeping UT from offering Gruden and him taking the job? Nothing. If Gruden is named coach I will eat my words and come back for the heat.

But the evidence proves this is a major troll job.

I posted this earlier I'd love for knucks input or any other insiders.

With Fulmer never being at a negotiation table,do you think he will be clutch enough to go for it with the right numbers in place and fire his shot or is there any doubt there

? Math is hard.

Really? That soon...no pun intended...you are thinking tomorrow?

If all the ground work was done it is just a matter of saying ..Yes you have full control..Blackburn for Ops ..Here is an extra million per. If nothing tomorrow latest Tues I don't think he comes..Guess

This came from some UGA friends talking about how the media has been bashing Tennessee this past week and just like UT fans they say who gives a d@mn what they think. They were talking about how they never seen a fan base do what was did and never thought something like that could ever happen. Thats all they wanted to talk about and they know the fans are sick and tired of losing and dont blame the fans doing what they did. Just thought I would share this.
