Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVI

I'm pretty sure Phil's out for blood but we also know he bleeds Orange so we shouldn't care about the media's perception of us.....screw them.

Any source for negative media reports of Phillip Fulmer is coming from only one side - HoH. Only way they can save face at all in any of this. Make Fulmer the bad guy.

Okay, so you're saying you know nothing more than me.

Thanks, got it.

Will wait to see if any of the "insiders" respond with anything concrete.

Appreciate your response.

If you want the absolute best end result for UT...

Your emails and tweets need to make two names clear.

Jon Gruden.
Charles Davis.

One more push JP. Just one more.....

I'm up for one more, Charlie. Getting the right person hired as AD. Or more accurately, ensuring the wrong person isn't (this Currie underling).

But no more "one mores" after that. After that, it's Find The Best Coach We Can (which I personally think has a near 0% chance of being Gruden, but we'll see).

No more social media midnight pitchfork and torch rallies.

Not unless one of those "insiders" comes forth with something more than platitudes and hand-waving.

One more it is.

People are looking for direction in the great times of revolution. We are at a crossroads, and all directions are not equal. In order to get where we want to go we must choose wisely. Not merely one choice, but many, consecutive, correct choices.

The public cannot make the hire, but I do believe we can limit the scope of the search. It appears to me that we have three names we can accept: Fulmer, Blackburn, and Davis.

It is clear from what is available that one of the factions doesn't want Fulmer to become the AD. I believe the reasons for this are clear. They are trying to control the narrative. Here is where we have the most power.

For our next move, I suggest the following:

  • Step One: Gather Our Ammunition
  • Step Two: Take Aim
  • Step Three: FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

Step One: Gather Our Ammunition

This is where we must win. Here is where the breaks are made.

In order to control the narrative, we need more than comments on Twitter. Like it or not, this fails at garnering wide credibility. What we need is for some local reporters to generate some articles make Fulmer look good in light of the recent reports of sabotage. We need it to be spun so that Fulmer was de facto acting in a leadership position by preventing Currie (a lame duck) from making any detrimental hire. So, if anyone knows (or is) a reporter with any credibility, give us some short pieces that we can link. It can be fluff pieces, blurbs, opinions, etc.

For Blackburn and Davis, we need articles showing their competence and leadership abilities. We need to promote their virtues and skills. Find, create, etc. anything available on a public forum (other than a message board).

Step Two: Take Aim

Find your greatest points of influence, and prepare to attack. We need to focus on two points: the public sphere and the administration.

The public sphere includes twitter, Facebook, TOS's, etc. Be ready to find places where our enemies reside. Find places where our message is most visible.

The administration is clearly receptive to our purpose. Continue the emails. State clearly and succinctly that we, the fans, support (1) Fulmer (2) Blackburn and (3) Davis. Short of those hires, they MUST have good justification to make any AD hire. Send emails, make phone calls, etc. Now is the time to push. We must apply more steam.

We must clearly state that Reid Sigmon is not an acceptable choice.

Step Three: FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

We must win the war of information. This means talking to people and pushing our argument and agenda. Argue in any space available when the anti-Fulmer agenda is brought.

Share our "ammunition" everywhere. Change the storyline. It means convincing everyone that Fulmer was acting as a leader by preventing the hire. We can admit that Fulmer worked against Currie and make the story about how he helped the University. Make him a hero for preventing Currie hiring anyone.

We cannot let the Fulmer sabotage story gain positive traction. We must those stories appear to be muck slinging from an embittered (and fired) John Currie and Haslam.

Promote the virtues of Davis and Blackburn. We must get everyone on board. By making them all popular we increase the name recognition and value of each of those hires.

Conclusion:

We have the power to influence this race. We can control the story line. It just takes a tiny bit of coordination. Roll the snowball down the hill and watch the monster it quickly becomes.

What if since Sunday’s Schiano mess, Fulmer, Manning, Blackburn, Ergen boosters, and Gruden all have been in the the ear of Bev. What if she fired Currie to announce Gruden today at 4pm.What if Bev has been refusing Currie’s efforts so she could make this announcement. What if it’s all finally happening.

Fits Deerhunter’s “info” as this would have been talked about in the AD.

Explains AV absence since Sunday, (Couldn’t risk commenting on it)

Explains MIT Beavers work on twitter.

Explains the sudden flood of leaks as to the coach candidates.

The pieces fit. The timeline fits. It could be fiction, but “never say never to nothing.”

Beav. is filling a needed role but I don’t think he’s “in the know” by any means. PV’s called his inaccurate comments out on multiple occasions.

Yes, and I'm very disappointed in Finebaum's comment that Phil tried to sabotage this whole thing. Paul is definitely not a VFL. Why is he allowed on campus?

If Manning takes over AD that's equivalent to darth Vader stabbing Haun solo with a lightsaber if he does that to fulmer

If this happens he is even lower than nothing to me and ruined himself in the eyes of all Tennessee fans. Why on earth he thought he needed to align himself with Haslam is beyond me. It’s disgraceful.

It makes me

I like your plan...

But you have to be specific.
One name for each position.

EVERYONE must be on the exact same page.

like i saw in another thread, haslam is pushing this narrative that phil is the cause of all this chaos AND ESPN is going with it. Its obviously absurd but this could be a way to divide the fanbase again and let haslam get someone else in as AD. Haslam gained a ton of leverage when phil was ousted and stands to lose out if he or even blackburn is put in as AD.

I think the key as fans is to continue the united front and keep pressure up to make sure haslam cant keep his people in. Blackburn getting hired is the best chance for Gruden imo
