Again I will ask, why in the hell is he interviewing anyone without knowing what he can offer and if it will be accepted by the school? This is so assbackwards!
Currie should have already met with whoever pulls the ultimate trigger weeks ago and had a list of approved candidates and money to spend. RETARDED RETARDED RETARDED

Here's my concerns:

Everyone is talking about his DC being great. They gave up 58 to Arizona, 37 to 3-3 Cal, 41 to Washington. Other than those games he did pretty well though. But does it translate to the SEC?

Can he recruit with the big boys in the SEC? I say no. He's going to have to add some big time recruiters to his staff.

His team got to #8 in the country and then no showed against Cal. (this is a little nit picky I admit)

16 seasons as HC - only 6 with 9+ wins

He's never won a conference title and has only won his division one time and it was a 3 way tie.

I think his offense would work here well enough to win some games. But if you want to hoist a trophy in Atlanta you better have an awesome defense with some beasts on the defensive line and you better be able to run the ball. Huge question marks for him and evidence doesn't point towards him getting those things done well enough to win big here.

I think this is a 7-5 to 8-4 type hire.

I think the ceiling is probably higher but share all your concerns.

We all agree he's going to have bring in some big time recruiters. However, do those type guys want to work for Mike Leach? He's a weird cat - which is sometimes fine - but do they want to deal with it on the ground level day in and day out?

Like, I can't imagine Kevin Steele jumping at the opportunity to make Mike Leach his boss.

I've accepted just enjoying the press conferences for the first couple of years until he figures out the SEC

For anyone curious, Leach has said that his most favorite aspect of the game is probably offensive and defensive line play.

You could argue that his OL splits are his most impactful achievement, it forces the D to defend more of the field, and causes the best pass rushers to be just a little bit farther away from the qb, and helps to see lanes over the middle, mesh play works great on zone or man

For those not sold on Leach. If Florida hired him, would you be concerned? If answer is yes, he’s the guy to get.

Florida forum is worried that we will get him, so there is that.

And those idiots on Sports Animal: Those people listening in who don't research will believe their crap. Dude was chosen top offensive mind in college football.

Did a very short visit to a Wazzu board, fwiw they think he's already gone and they're talking about who they wanna hire next. saying they have to try and make Grinch the HC.

The thing that eases a lot of worries with Leach for me is that he’s not just smart, but the type of smart that doesn’t get in the way of being successful. Success is the ultimate goal, not looking good while doing it. I would have to think if adjustments need to be made, making them will not be an issue.

Its sad when you have zero confidence in your AD to get a hire done.

The Haslams have effectively destroyed all confidence in the AD because everything operates at their whim. It's an absolute mess that makes me rethink some of the harsh judgment I had about prior ADs. Without Joe Johnson providing powerful leadership we can't have another Doug Dickey.

Even at Chancellor, Cheek was a bastard but at least he had a spine. Davenport is too new to do much right now.

Evidently Aranda has worked for him in the past. Maybe that's a possibility. His DC now is widely regarded as bright young mind, hopefully he comes with him.

I listened on the way to work and the female (don't know her name) said it was horrible and he shouldn't be considered but wanted Les Miles 100%. Now I wouldn't mind Miles but right now I'll take the greater Offensive Mind because of the weapons we currently have on offense

You'd think they have to be tired of screwing this up and will just get the deal done considering the majority of fans and media will love this hire.

It has become personal for a lot of the people involved post Schiano. That happens when you get lied to while be asked for money.

Leach runs less mesh and a lot more four verts. But I agree with the rest. It also creates massive inside running lanes. Instead of driving the defensive end a yard, just increase your split by a yard and you already have a great hole to run through

I've seen that the OL is his favorite part of the offense to scheme.

Haslams may have broken Currie but let’s remember he will be paid 5 mil minimum. So tell me the things I would do for 5 mil, this should be good

Leach is a good football coach but I think he's gonna have to tweak his offense at least a little bit in order to have big success here. You absolutely have to be able to run the football. I also have a hard time seeing him doing well in recruiting. IMO his staff will have to be filled with dynamic recruiters.

ahh the stereostypes....all that is the low hanging fruit. Easy to say. The guy is a football coach of course he will do whatever he has to do to win. Im sure he will run it more down here. But his offense will have heads spinning in this conference. Hes kicking USC, Utahs,Stanford, Oregons ass with kids nobody wanted. His top two WRs are from South FL. He will be alright. Alot of the older ppl are gonna stick with the " 3 yards and a cloud of dust" routine. I watched bama lose to AU and they threw 30 times. I saw Clemson beat them and throw 57 times. Those old days are gone and im sure he knows he will have to run it more down here. He also doesnt have a John Kelly and Ty Chandler up there.
