Okay, objectively speaking...
Leach isn't a horrible hire. Kind of quirky, but pretty dang proficient in getting a lot out of his players. When he was at Texas Tech, that's when Texas was the big dog in the State and the other "big" schools (ATM, Baylor, TCU and TTU) competed for the leftover scraps. I think he could bring in a very dynamic offense.
Now the bad part...he's not a "name brand" that sells itself in the cutthroat world of SEC recruiting. Plenty of folks know him, sure, but he's just not...exciting. Not to say he can't build a base, but the big point is he would have to build a recruiting base which will take time. If he managed to drop into a top 10 class like Jones did his 2nd year, it could get interesting.
I'm going to have to sleep on this to determine whether I could accept this kind of hire. Certainly worlds better than a Chad Morris (no offense Rev) or a Doeren. Equal to a Gundy? Not sure yet.
