What have you been watching for last decade plus, we are mediocre and the national news people like reminding us of it, because, on paper, we are crap. We are the worst team in the SEC. We didn't win one game in conference, we are mediocre now. Our 10 year average put's us in the middle of 120+ schools in NCAA football.

Top flight, proven, P5 coaches cost money. Either pony it up or end up with Dooley, Butch, or Schiano. Your choice. The extra 3 million we are paying Gundy per year will be easily made up in ticket sales and donations.

Auburn seems to be having fun with their current 10 win season. No reason to think that’s Gundys ceiling either. But look, outside of 3 guys, fans were going to be let down a little. And apparently at least 2/3 has zero intention of coming to UT.

In 2012 Haslam was openly against it. This time around I believe Currie and Haslam schemed behind their back. Unfortunately they fell for it.

But, in the grand scheme, at the end of the day, the question is, regardless of the hire, can they win at Tennessee, and do they want to be here?

For whatever reason, I really do think Gundy can be successful and help Tennessee be great, again. My biggest question, does he really want it or is he just using it to bolster his worth at OSU? Not sure. But he will at least call out the press and take up for his players...and that is a trait I like and respect in a coach. So, I say what the hell, let's give him a chance and if he is up to the task, give him our support. Just my two-cents.

This is a difficult hire to support only because Currie and Haslam are still tied to it.

There is nothing here to be happy about.

Exactly my thoughts! Since I live in Boca, I will even offer to go pick him up at home or FAU (both my daughters attend FAU) and drive him to Palm Beach airport and make sure he gets on a plane to KnoxVegas! He would take this job in a heartbeat and he would love to put the nail in Saban coffin and into retirement!!! He knows how Bama program operates and works within.

Why do you assume they will always be a few steps ahead?

Kirby Smart is extremely unproven and is riding on a loaded team he took from Richt that had a bunch of NFL players who didn't leave after their junior year.

LSU has the Ogre.

Florida has Mullen.

You really think they're better coaches than Gundy? A guy who has 100+ wins, has beaten way better coaches, has won BCS bowl games etc etc.

So by most accounts the top 4 candidates were

Kelly, Gruden, Patterson, Petersen

Why don’t you tell me how many national titles they have combined? Your criteria for success is a little off. 😬
