Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

I don't think Currie is going anywhere. Sure doesn't seem like it. We're not going to end up with a coach anybody likes unfortunately. I hope I'm wrong.[/QUOTE

Each hour and day as he stays leaves less and less hope.... I believe it is just like this Gruden plan.... The Boosters that support it are loud and make the most noise so they are who we hear from, however it is evident to me they are not as strong nor powerful as they would have us all believe nor are there enough of them...

I am afraid we are stuck with the Haslams and mediocrity, and as for me I have never been convinced that Ergen threw his money at UT's problem.

Just my thoughts

I could see Lane go public that UT offered him, he appears to consider it, then he turns us down in grand fashion, gets on twitter, trolls us that we want him now after burning mattresses, and then the national media who already hates us, picks it up and laughs and cheers and hundreds of articles are written making fun of us once again.

ESPN would have a field day. They are probably hoping that’s what goes down.

I'm about to the point where I hope any and every coach offered says, "No thanks, I will not work under Currie and Haslam."

Which is why this isn’t believable. Gruden, Peyton, or one of the main boosters could leak this and there would be an angry mob ready to remove Currie from his office in minutes. Or he would just resign or be forced to get on board. But the Haslams are scary, so everyone remains quiet and hangs the fans out to dry? If that’s the case, they’re as guilty as the Haslams and Currie.

Not sure what I believe anymore, except it doesn't make sense.

The way to get Haslam out is to turn down his donations. That takes away his power. Yeah, it would hurt financially in the short term, but the long term benefits would be great.

It’d be nice, but that ain’t gonna happen. The President of the University is apparently fine with Haslam running the show as long as his money is coming in. There is literally no one at the University with enough clout to challenge the Haslams. Their power encompasses big business and big politics, as well as their “side” dealings with UT.

The only thing that could cause any change at all is the public perception of the Haslams as it relates to Bill’s future in politics. I think that is the only thing the family is worried about at the moment.

And that is why Lane is where he is along with other things

I know this is a double post from another thread but it belongs in both Yeah Im not being humble. Lol
Even ESPN acknowledges we, along with Fl.and Ne., are a team with the history that should legitimately aspire to top 10 heights yearly. True story. On Sportscenter last night.
Also, they seem to be putting more, emphasis on Currie, and the administration for this recent fiasco and much less on the fans. Said the administration should have known it's fan base better. I had steeled myself for the segment but was pleasently surprised. Also said 10 or 20 years from now we would look back and say UT fans changed college football forever.

I have a feeling Haslam is going to win out again. They believe once a coach is hired it will deflect some attention away from Currie and over time the attention(good or bad) will go to the coach. Whoever we bring in at this point is in a bad situation. Next year is going to be a tough year. The culture at UT will not change unless haslam, Currie, and davenport are gone. Even if a coach is hired please continue the heat on Currie, our proud tradition depends on it.

If they're underestimating the passion of the fan base after Sunday then they are making a huge mistake. Currie will not be able to step foot into the public without being heckled now.

Try not to beat up Goofy in an angry rage.

Funny story to lighten the mood...

When I was in college I did the Disney College Program and worked as a cast member here for a couple of semesters. I had a friend who had been hired to be a face character from mulan but the movie hadn't come out yet, so he was playing eeyore for a couple of months. One evening he came to our apartment with 2 black eyes and a swollen jaw. Turned out there was some gang in Orlando that part of their initiation was to beat up a character. So they waited in line then started taking shots at eeyore when it was their turn.

I can safely say nobody should be hired as HFC right now. I don't trust Currie and don't trust him calling anyone to gauge interest.

Haslam can be dealt with internally by other boosters. They can get rid of Currie while mitigating his power at the same time by putting in a guy (or gal) they want. And then let the new AD pick their coach. But do it fast.

Atlanta, I hope you're reading. You're our voice up there..

I'm not sure how that's funny...

What makes me even more mad about this Schiano thing is that evidently we told Chip Kelly and his people we weren't interested in him at all.

If he stays on, it’ll be in name only. If they are allowing him to actually travel and interview on his own merit then we are in worse trouble than I thought. What does he even say to a coach when asked about Sunday?? Based in his statement, I bet he throws the fans under the bus.

That is true for now. Once a coach is hired he can step back out for a while. He will get heckled at the bball games, but so did Hart. Heckling at games won't be enough. We need to keep the pressure on his bosses and hit UT where it hurts. Like AV said if you want to support players buy tickets off stubhub or scalpers. I called yesterday and let them know I will not be renewing as long as Currie is there. I know 2 other skybox donors that did the same.
