Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

Which is why someone either in the AD or booster side needs to leak all the dirty laundry on Currie and Haslams about what went down.

This perception of the fans needs to change, and until someone grows a pair and does something like this, we will continued to be vilified on every national sports show out there.

The story needs to be shifted off the fans, and onto the people who caused this mess, Currie and Haslam.

Yep. I'm afraid that it's not going to happen though. I'm fully prepared for more of the same and I'm afraid it's going to get worse before it gets better. Maybe I'm just a broken Vol fan, but I went from ecstatic to completely deflated in a matter of hours on Sunday.

I agree, we need to fire Currie and hire a competent AD, who is not in the back pocket of certain boosters.
And it would be easy for me to think that Phil Fulmer or David Blackburn would be able to step right in.
But they would most likely have to go through the process of interviewing candidates, and that would take precious time! All the while, we are without a football coach!
Arkansas fired their coach on Sunday, and will be looking to hire a new one. But they fired their AD a few weeks ago.
So to my question ...... can UT fire Currie, and still get us a QUALITY coach (Gruden) before hiring a new AD?

That’s the thing. Sure, we could fire Currie, but with Haslam at the helm, what good does it do? Haslam will bring in another yes man with a 5 million golden parachute and it starts all over again.

Haslam muscled in Currie, shoved him in the face of the other boosters and basically said, this is my guy, idgaf if you don’t like it and Anderson walked out. Did Haslam care that Anderson was mad over Currie’s hire? Nope. No *****s were given.

That tells me all I need to know. Haslam does not care about the other boosters. Until Haslam is gone, we are *****ed. Period. There’s no way we untangle Haslam from this University with any quickness. It took years to get here, it’ll take years to get him out.

It's laughable some people think we aren't a top program.

Top ten in:
Revenue
Attendance
Stadium
Fan base
Facilities
All time wins

Even the state of Tennessee is producing top 5 in recruits.

Edit: someone should sticky a post with this

Overtime wins.
Overtime berths?

Gruden til it's not.

If we get Kiffin there better be a $40 million buyout if he leaves us at any point, and it doesn't go down over his time left on contract. And it should be very heavily performance based.

The Kiffin hire has less of a chance than Gruden. He stunk up the place the only year he was here. He alienated the former coaches and some of the players. He almost got us in trouble with the NCAA and would have if he stayed another year.

Need to change the name to Haslam University and start a real University of Tennessee! I can no longer watch this mess, I'm done.

Currie will be booed and heckled every minute of every day in public settings for the duration of his time at UT. Turn up the heat.

I hope they're working on some sort of exit strategy. I never cheer for anyone to lose their job, but with the buyout of his contract and the way he just handled this thing, it's ridiculous.

I could see Lane go public that UT offered him, he appears to consider it, then he turns us down in grand fashion, gets on twitter, trolls us that we want him now after burning mattresses, and then the national media who already hates us, picks it up and laughs and cheers and hundreds of articles are written making fun of us once again.

ESPN would have a field day. They are probably hoping that’s what goes down.

The way to get Haslam out is to turn down his donations. That takes away his power. Yeah, it would hurt financially in the short term, but the long term benefits would be great.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Lane is a clown. If you don't believe that just go look at his twitter.

There is nothing Currie can do to redeem himself in my eyes. Not even bringing in Gruden at this point. He has to go and the other boosters have to tell Haslam to go fly a kite.

Agreed, and we can call and email and tweet all we want, but there is only one thing a man like Haslam understands. And that's POWER.

Seriously, someone needs to grow a pair like that Assoc AD who leaked the Schiano deal and get everything out there. Would we possibly get another black eye? Yes, but like it was said earlier in this thread, sometimes you have to burn it all down to rebuild it.

Shock and awe is what we need right now to displace Haslam.

They are all on power trips. Its all about them.

I have a feeling Haslam is going to win out again. They believe once a coach is hired it will deflect some attention away from Currie and over time the attention(good or bad) will go to the coach. Whoever we bring in at this point is in a bad situation. Next year is going to be a tough year. The culture at UT will not change unless haslam, Currie, and davenport are gone. Even if a coach is hired please continue the heat on Currie, our proud tradition depends on it.
