Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

I’d be open to giving Lane another shot but after the controversy we just had, I don’t believe for a second they would go that route.

It’s the dawn of another day ladies and gentlemen, a chance for a fresh start. How Currie and Bev are still here is beyond me.

Can you hear that change a coming? It’s coming round the bend. We ain’t seen the sunshine in I don’t know when.

I am not 100% sure this is accurate but wanted to pass along anyways. Someone very connected to the Haslam camp told me they went back to Gruden on Saturday night and offered him and his staff an insane amount of money. He turned it down again; Currie panicked due to the timeline he told people and hopped on a plane to Columbus.

Could be true or could be Haslam pushing Currie as the fall guy

A new coach, no matter who it is, is not the answer right now. As hard as it is to comprehend just how dysfunctional, corrupt, and inept our administration is right now, this is where the focus needs to be. Fix the administration. No coach is going to want or be able to operate effectively with this sh!tshow going on.

Kiffin is a band aid. A bad one. He will make it look ok for a bit, but it won’t fix the gaping hole between the admin and the fan base.

He wins behr, bottom line. If it isn't Gruden or Peterson who you taking?? And it isn't looking like either or those two at this point

This Gruden thing was so much more than just about Gruden, for me.

Hiring Kiffin is a major fail.

This could be but as a seasoned executive, you can’t panic and go from Gruden to dumpster diving in a hot second. Gruden says no. You go to another a lister. Yet another sign of incompetence. Heck, they thought they were hiring Schiano but were too dumb to thankfully get all the right signatures on board. Embarrassing

Actual vs apparent authority: Wouldn't Currie in his position have actual authority to sign an agreement though? I don't know what that entails really, it just seems that his position does give him that authority. Is this something that others would have to "ok" before he jetted off with paper and pen in hand?

Here’s a copy of Butch’s MOU. Assuming that the format hasn’t changed, Davenport would have to sign for this to be binding.

If Gruden is really interested in the job, then have him make a public statement and force their hand. Seems logical to me.

Keep the full court press on Currie. We have got to do everything we can to stop his next hire before it's rammed down or throats. His removal would put his last fiasco behind us a bit and a new AD just a fresh enough start to maybe get a great hire.Any hire now by Currie will be a desperation pick. We remember the last two! FIRE CURRIE SOOON. CURRIE OFF THE HILL!

I really like that image GV posted earlier. The reVOLt one..

Now someone please tell me how to make that my aviator image. Thanks.[/QUOTE]

That ReVolt image should be on the Rock.

It was shiano all along, no one else was going to be considered by the admin.

I seriously doubt he was interested or especially is now... but stranger things have happened

would love to know what went on or didn't go on behind the scenes regarding him

At this point I think the only ties to Gruden were some boosters calling him up telling him they were putting a plan together to make him an offer. That could be why Gruden supposedly called some coaches i.e. Tee to gauge interest of being on staff. But that plan had no legs with Currie or Haslam. Currie may have eluded to the boosters he would talk with Gruden but never did. Thats why i don't think Gruden has came out and confirmed or denied anything because he hasn't talked to anyone about the job (Currie, or UT reps)

Agreed for me it was a chance for the AD to show what we could do , everything was there for us to do something big . It was the perfect storm , now it’s just a storm

I also think the boosters at this point think they can revolt and overthrow Currie/haslam and get Blackburn on board, and then make a serious run at Gruden. But I think Currie gets to make this hire. At this point I think Currie will make a hire soon because they are now trying to put this fire out ASAP. And I think the prez and Davenport will wanna get it done now rather than fire currie and get an AD then find a coach. IMO

It's a huge risk, but if you set his buyout at 20+ million I don't hate it...

If he comes and wins the fan base will be on board... in multiple polls he is the fan voted favorite at this point... may be something to it

I wish people would get the fact that he is not, NOT coming. In fact, I think that was part of the reason people were so pissed about GS. The administration and even Gruden himself have teased the fan base about Gruden being a serious candidate, and he is not. Move on!:hi:

I'd take Kiffen all day long. Yea he left in the middle of the night and hurt some feeling because we thought "were tennessee" how dare you do this to us. Whatever get over it, the man is a baller of a coach. After Dooley,Butch, and almost Shiano I would be over joyed to get Kiffen at least we would win games even if it was for a short time. but I think Kiffen has grown up and realized he can't just jump all over the place.

Freak's on board - tread carefully :)

#BringBackLane

I don’t see anyone better who’s going to take this job right now.

He’s a good offensive mind and he’s been around the SEC and PAC 12. He’s young. He recruits well. Has swagger. Draws media attention and fans are infatuated with him. Energizes the fan base. His social media contributions are like the gift that keeps on giving the whole year.

I doubt we consider him though, we’re too busy courting guys like Schiano and Cutcliffe (who I love but would be a terrible fit here right now.)
