Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

Haslam pushed the button on Schiano. They went behind everyone's back and now they're letting Currie take the fall for their screw up. Just like they did the executives at Pilot.

This hopefully means Currie loses his job and speaks out against the Haslams and they will be dethroned.

Bring in Phil and Blackburn and we are back in the game with the great Grude. Has to happen quick, though. 😁

Back by popular (or something like that) demand. The recap of yesterday, in pictures.

So, we started the day by waking up happy, because it was going to be a Grude day:

And then we got hit with the CBS article talking about Gruden and UT talking:

And then someone dropped a bomb about a meeting in the AD:

And we celebrated even more:

Then...suddenly the mood changed as word started getting out about that guy...

And the picture became clearer:

And suddenly, denial set in:

lalala-shut-up-gif.gif

Then anger:

And rage:

Some immediately called the AD and UT

Others still had a hard time grasping it:

Then the trolls stopped by:

And promptly multiplied:

We implored Freak to stop:

To which he helped:

More calls were made:

And emails sent:

Chattanooga Times Free Press reporting that Davenport did not sign the MOU. Not sure how significant it could be.

Its significant because she is letting him take the fall. She says she had no idea, Currie was acting rogue....which is enough for termination. I don’t buy it. She had to know. She has to go too.

He's the best thing you've got going for you at this point. Send the damn emails demanding Currie be fired!

That's ridiculous. This guy point blank said the people behind this don't lose and now he needs Vol Nation to go on the social attack. If he's the best we've got going for us right now, then we're all screwed, blued, and tattooed.

This is the email I sent to him - not as eloquent as others but said what I had to say:

Good morning Sir,

I am a small voice but many small Tennessee voices from around the country and the world united yesterday. The attempted hiring of Greg Schiano to be the next head football coach for the University of Tennessee demonstrated gross incompetence on behalf of our Athletic Director, John Currie.

Greg Schiano may or may not be a good coach and might possibly be a good potential head coach - Please know beyond a shadow of a doubt that his coaching credentials are not what united this fanbase in protest yesterday.

His connections to the staff at Penn State that did not stop what Sandusky did to those young boys is what united this fanbase in protest.

I have no proof. I’m not a police officer, an investigator or a lawyer. I cried when I found out what Sandusky did and believe to this day, that the other staff members knew it was happening and did nothing to stop it. (Reporting it to a superior is nothing - screaming it at the top of your lungs is something. Pulling that man off the boy is stopping it.)

Neither Greg Schiano, nor any other man from within that Penn State program during that period of time, should be anywhere near our proud program.

Pat Summit should be the example the University of Tennessee aspires to when searching for a coach of high character and strong morals.

I don’t think John Currie is competent to be the Athletic Director for the University of Tennessee. He issued a statement that he vetted Greg Schiano - and still chose to offer him our Head Coach position. Shame on him and shame on the University of Tennessee if we keep John Currie after this debacle.

I don’t know but I know a lot of angry people with deep pockets want him out. The group I hangout with had a teleconference last night and all agreed we were ready to back out if GS was hired. We elected our highest ranking booster to contact the AD and tell them. All of us together is a very significant amount of money. I don’t know if we are going to pull that card again for Currie but I know we are going to talk again in the next couple of days. You have to be careful with the nuclear option. I know that several of us today have talked to reps of the AD and expressed the Currie needs to be out.

Thank you.

Sigh....#*@&ing Currie. Because of all this crap, I just remembered it was cyber Monday and completely missed out several limited quantity items that were at super prices and have now sold out....

You will rue this day Currie!!!! As if I wasn't pissed off before, now I'm a Category 5 hurricane of rage.

Nowhere have I placed any blame on Jon Gruden.

I only blame Gruden if he has no interest at all. If he does not, he needs to say so da*nit.

With that said, I think Currie wanted Schiano all along and he never considered otherwise! We have the money, we should get a top tier coach.
Not that it means much at this point, but Scott Frost is still available. I am willing to sacrifice an early signing period for the right hire (which Schiano is not!)

Its significant because she is letting him take the fall. She says she had no idea, Currie was acting rogue....which is enough for termination. I don’t buy it. She had to know. She has to go too.

Currie said he was going to be in constant contact with Davenport throughout the process. No way she did not know Currie was offering Schiano.

Here's my question: Who on the UT side has to sign the contract to hire the new coach? Just Currie? Currie and Davenport? Currie and ?????

Fox Sports radio guys reporting Bev Davenport did not yet sign the MOU with Schiano. In the past that was needed to make the document binding in their view.

Bev may not have signed the MOU, but it was only because she hadn't gotten around to it yet, not because of any hesitation on the actual hire. She's FOS just like Currie is. Don't let her try to play hero here.

Well I'm going to have to admit I was wrong about the Haslams. They apparently really are playing Game of Thrones there. I apologize to any I disagreed with about that.

Not sure why that Jimmy has picked this path. I guess he wants UT to be on equal footing with the Browns. Big Jim apparently doesn't get involved any longer. Most shocking to me is that Peyton was tied up in this. Also that Peyton/Jimmy were the ones who picked Currie. Apparently Peyton maybe doesn't like Phil as much as we thought. This is as bad/fractured of an AD as there possibly could be.

Those of us who are the more common fan will pay the price for years with more chaos and bad football. I will no longer be paying the price for season tickets. It's all too much to deal with any more.

Chances to do right are fleeting at UT. A good coach sees opportunity and seizes it. Right now Matt Canada is available to be a head coach.
CBJ hired L.Scott...a missed opportunity.
Davenport hired Currie over Blackburn missed opportunity.
UT needs to right the ship best we can. Do the above keep posting on twitter...send emails to president,etc... sign petitions on change.org

remember Currie chose to fire F.Martin, current b-ball at S.C. who made final 4 last year with limited talent. Bill Snyder doesn't care for Currie either.

She knew exactly what was going on! Send her packing!

I am not saying he is not a good guy. I am saying he has no clue whats going on. You dont say weeks ago the deal is done, then this happens. The deal is not done till it's done. he does not know as much as he thought he does

Do you not understand what just happened? The boosters did meet with Gruden, in Tamps, to iron out the details of his contract. Gruden wanted total control of the football program and he was led to believe he was getting control.

Haslam and Currie were on board with this because, secretly, those two had another agenda. Everyone was led to believe Gruden was coming.

Gruden didn't want to be announced as our coach until 11/28. This was the perfect opening for Haslam and Currie to formulate their own plan. If Gruden had not put that stipulation in place, there's a good chance all of this stuff happening today could have been avoided. He would have been our next coach. I bet I'm pretty much spot on here. At least I think so.
