Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

Like I’ve said many, many times now, Currie’s not going anywhere anytime soon. He will be responsible for hiring the next HC. I’m not saying I agree with it, I’m just stating the obvious. It’s a lot harder to fire people than I feel most believe.

Besides overseeing the athletics of Tennessee, Currie’s other task is to raise funds. Right now, there is zero chance he can get massive funds donated.

Lots of pressure on John Currie to resign today from many big time boosters. Bunch of turmoil in Athletic Department. #Tennessee

Am told there's increasing pressure now from big-money #Vols boosters to force #Tennessee AD John Currie out in the wake of Sunday's news. UT source told me: "This is such a hot mess. Just when you think they’ve gotten out of the ditch. They’ve fallen into a much bigger one.“

Brohm is a stand up guy, and his family is very nice. I know this FIRST HAND. If he is hired, we SHOULD NOT treat them with anything but respect.

Edit: I will post this every ten posts if we hire him, as this is 100% true, and everyone needs to know it.

We will give anybody a chance, but that's not the point!

We had the #1 job opening in all of football and our AD just reignited a 10 year old dumpster fire!!

We should be looking at a proven P5 coach. Instead we never even offered Chip Kelly who could reek havoc with our current talent!

Very True, If hired(although not my choice) he is coming into a hostile situation by no fault of his own. I will give him respect and a chance. It will be from my living room though unless Currie is gone.

I agree 100%. No way the Schiano anger should spill over nor disappointment over JG. Whoever the coach is, he and the recruits need support.

Chancellor Davenport,

When will this dog and pony show end? Neither you nor Currie have quelled the madness that transpired on 11/26/17.

As a lifelong Vol, alumnus and supporter of this great institution, I demand answers, but most of all, I demand the best from our leadership. What occurred yesterday is beyond despicable and is widely regarded as reprehensible. There is no way in hell anyone involved could justifiably agree that this was the most viable option to rectify and rejuvenate an already depleted, beleaguered team and fan base. I am physically sick that my alma mater has disregarded what's been screaming in their ear for years - the voice of the fans. We showed up and showed out yesterday, and this is far from over.

To believe John Currie during his press conference on the dismissal of Lyle Allen Jones, Jr., one would have to be completely disassociated with reality or mentally ill. We were promised a coach who will put Tennessee on the path to competing for championships, not an enabler for despicable, heinous acts who just happens to be a bad coach. If UT believes this is apathy, you've seen nothing. Imagine, if you will, a cavernous stadium filled to half capacity (and this is a stretch), a drastic down-turn in apparel and licensed merchandise sales, a tentatively approved $340M stadium renovation and other lavish dreams on the academic and athletic fronts, has UT considered where the funds will come from? It will not come from this fan base. Will the Haslams foot the bill to maintain their death grip on power? This may be the only option left if this is mishandled any worse than it already has been. Further, I believe UT's allegiance to anything Haslam will alienate other well-endowed athletic and academic boosters. It only takes open eyes and ears to realize the contentious battles within the UTAD. It is a well-known truth that no one outside of the Haslams and their puppets cares for the control and power wielded from Jim Haslam. The marionette stopped dancing yesterday because the strings were cut.

The king is one move away from checkmate. It's your turn.

Thank you,

I agree, just trying to get out ahead of it, since it looks more likely lately that we may get him.

Yea, don't blame the next guy! He is stepping into a bad situation that may not get any better!

Brohm may be a great guy, but I'm out with that hire combined with everything yesterday. Until Haslam is out, I'm out.

My biggest disappointment would be if the changing of the power structure doesn't happen.

"These people don't miss" is ringing a little hollow

Bro, this has nothing to do with Brohm. I’m sure he is and you apparently know him. This is bigger than a football coach now. This is a total disregard for a fan base that gives its all to support the university. It won’t matter if Gruden is coach, we should be pissed at how we’re being viewed and treated. 👊

He's a program builder, for sure, so I think he can improve us. Not worried about that part.

Plus his public image is good, clean history, winning attitude, family man.

Fun bonus, QB'd in the XFL.

Agreed. Again, just trying to get out ahead of things. I want Currie and Haslam gone too. Don't take my comment as denial of the facts you presented.

I don't "know" him, just interacted with him multiple times, and know his family somewhat.

We as a fan base NEED to get behind whatever google coach is hired! Whoever it is will be risking a lot to try, and fix this dumpster fire.
