I think I'm okay with letting Tee learn on the job if you can get Kevin Steele and other VFL's on staff. Let him be like Dabo. Completely delegate everything and be a great recruiting head coach.

I may be nuts but the program means something to these guys and I think that will prove to be the elixir needed for success.

I used to loathe the idea of getting a Tennessee-flavored staff just for the sake of it, because it reeked to me of what Alabama was trying to do while they were floundering about in obscurity -- always demanding people with Bama ties, even if they were mediocre at bets. But the more I think about it, given we've hit depths Bama never dreamed of, maybe, like you said, it's just what we need at this moment.

I think things went off the rails when Frost turned Florida down. Think we had Mullen in our back pocket before that happened.

Man... just caught up. Here was my thoughts.

1. Woke up at 6:00 am, checked ESPN app immediately, like a kid on Christmas morning. Vols on verge of hiring Schiano. "What the..."

2. Begin checking VN, every single page, getting enraged and tensed with every page. Thinking about the prospect of dropping my obsession with Tennessee football, posting a little, but just really ready to drop it.

3. I remember my fears and posts about the AD not caring about anything but making shiny things, about how I had been a fool to ever believe otherwise... only to have some faith restored as we began to debate the merits of whether Mullen was worthy. Suddenly... my fears were absolutely, and completely realized.

4. I see that Currie has apparently not put 10 minutes of work into this, based on his behavior, was much more concerned with the air of secrecy and thus did not open his thought process up to anyone with a brain. He stewed in his own self-arrogancy, thinking this was the best he could do. I was told to trust the master plan, and that he would come out smelling like roses. I was led to believe that Patterson and Mullen were in the back pocket. I was told that he was high on Frost and Campbell. I actually watched an acting AD use every possible positive name as a smokescreen for one of the worst possible hires, and actually convince himself this was a good idea. He may have actually even signed him already, screwing the AD out of 20 million, though I have to see this to believe it.

5. Then... like the Titans of old... I saw Volnation rise up with a fury which has never been seen in the world of sports. Singlehandedly, this fanbase crushed it all. I would not have thought it possible, but we did it.

6. Now, Currie must go. Put Fulmer in. Don't waste time. He's there already, he loves Tennessee, and as we've seen, when you give these monkeys 9 months to hire an AD, Currie is what we get.

7. We are probably not looking to get a proven winner. Campbell, Petersen, Taggart, Frost and mostly likely out, unless they were never contacted due to Currie's ineptitude. We are to the point to where maybe we get Morris, who may turn out good. Leach may come because he is completely unaware of anything, but the dude wins everywhere. Otherwise, Tee may angle to get in, and may be the best we can do.

8. I am sad, because our dreams of a top coach have once again been dashed, and our administration has proven again that they do not care and only want butts in the seats. I am proud of us as a fanbase, that we have let them know this is unacceptable. Let's watch.

Great post. I think we've all been waiting to hear your reaction.

At the end of the day, we should be proud that our morals won out and we didn't allow that scumbag to be the face of our once proud university. Maybe the administration's ineptitude should get us down - but I prefer to look at the positives.

Any coach who takes this job will be treated like a king. We have the support in place. I firmly believe we can still, on the whole, find someone more likely to succeed than Butch Jones. And I think that was the goal when this process started.

Currie has to go. He was made aware of this situation and still allowed Schiano to sign the MOU which could potentially cost the University millions of dollars. Not to mention the embarrassment he put everyone through.

It doesn’t matter who they bring in. Haslam will make the hire and get his man in there for coach. Lather, rinse, repeat. And we will be stuck in this endless cycle until he dies.

I said something to this effect several weeks ago and was roasted for it. It's the absolute truth. Haslams are the cancer on UT athletics.

Unpopular opinion forthcoming.

I do not nor did not at anytime want Greg Schiano as our football coach. That is because of on and off field things that I have serious concerns about. I don’t believe him to be a fit or someone I want representing the University of Tennessee.

That being said, the way his name and character over the Penn State stuff have been portrayed today is not right. Those people who jump on other people for not immediately calling Schiano someone who “covers up child rape” or “enables sexual predators” is wrong and shameful. It’s the world we live in today though. We hear something and just run with it.

Reading up on stuff the last hour or so, I don’t believe Schiano had any knowledge and was not even at Penn State at the time these horrendous things were going on. I don’t think any reasonable person would think different, either. It’s just not logical when presented with the facts and knowledge surrounding the case.

Hate Schiano because he’s not a good enough football coach to represent our university. Hate him because he’s a douchebag to his players. Hate him because he’s an apparent egomaniac that rubs people the wrong way. But hating him over the Penn State stuff and saying he enables child molesters is bull**** though. It’s just not reasonable to believe. It’s the “twitter mob” mentality we have as a society today and it’s wrong. No one deserves that.

Rant over. Flame away (and probably now call me a supporter of child molestation for whatever reason)

I agree. This twitter mob mentality is shameful.

Hank, do you think Gruden ever had an offer? I believe he never received one and wanted the job thus his mentioning of Knoxville and Rocky Top but Currie never made the offers. It’s just my opinion though. I’m lost after today and not thinking correctly.

If he wanted the job it would be his... stop the nonsense

Either hire:

-Tee
-Brohm
-Taggart (if he's still a viable candidate)
-Morris (ditto)

and let's roll into 2018.

Or appoint an interim, get a Tennessee guy as AD who operates outside the Haslams' sphere of influence, and be prepared to make someone the highest paid coach in football in November 2018.

No i don’t. I believe boosters courted him and he got calls from various people. It was never gonna be gruden. I said Currie and JG were ok with keeping Grumers alive bc i guess it gave him shade to talk to Schiano. And JG leveraging ESPN/NFL job.

It’s the pirate life for me. Throw all of our booty at him.

All the money too.

Leach wouldn't let any of this stuff that happened today bother him. And he would be the only name that would scare some DC's in this league. I wasn't sure about this before, but the more I think about it, the more I like it.

Thanks for the play by play. Wish it could have been over with quickly for me, 5 hours of agony I won't soon forget.

I was driving back home from Knoxville and as we were passing through the Carolina mountains, my girlfriend read me the headline. I briefly -- BRIEFLY -- considered plunging the car straight into the Green River Gorge.

This is absolutely the worst case scenario. Not only do we 100% know that we have no home run hires available, we also start from scratch on the coaching search. Any head start we had on teams like Arkansas and a&m is gone.
