Doug Matthews Show

I agree with most of Doug's Rant but him implying we have a bunch of good players is delusional- Good players no way get hammered by Vanderbilt- Putting Lipstick on the pig doesn't make it a cow- Must recruit real physical & Mentally tough players & quit looking at Star ratings. A whole lot of Soft Deadwood needs to be Culled. Must sign & develop Tough players that eat, sleep & live football not Social media warriors.

I’m not saying it’s championship level talent....but....

In 2012, Auburn was 3-9, 0-8 in the SEC and almost won the national title the following year.

The coach is a BIG deal

Guarantano could start for plenty of them.

Last 4 games:
52 for 81, 766 yards, 3 TD, 1 Int. QBR 153, 9.45 yards per attempt.

And the interception hit the receiver in the hands, bounced up in the air, and was picked off. JG will be a terrific QB in the near future with a decent OL.

that would look awesome as a two game total. carve it up into four and it just looks pitiful.

Doug is telling is like it is this morning. Pretty much called out the Haslam family without mentioning their name.

With each passing week Doug loses more credibility imo. He started the show by saying he was really gonna day some things, really get some things off his chest this morning, was no longer gonna hold/bite his tongue......and then pretty much said the same crap I’ve heard him say a dozen times. He was as meek as a church mouse when cryptically mentioning the Haslam family.

Also, when discussing the players that the next coach will have to work with....he said the linebackers are “great”, the DL is “really good, very talented and deep”, and that the OL has “plenty of players and he thinks the OL will be really good”. Wtf is he talking about?

It’s becoming useless to even listen to him anymore. He’s definitely lost his fastball. I don’t know what the hell hes looking at.

Nobody wants to hear what Matthews is saying, although he is spot on this morning. The Grudenites will continue to say Gruden is the only answer, others that are sensible will continue to push for somebody that makes sense OTHER than Gruden and the AD and his cronies will do what they want. Whoever is hired will need a mulligan for at least 2 years to even get this ship called TN football from taking on any more water.

Depends what you mean by “mulligan.” Does that mean that we endure a 5-7, followed by a 6-6, then in year three begin to see a slow climb of one more win per season? If that’s the case, I think we’ve seen enough evidence to the contrary that there are coaches out there capable of a much more rapid turnaround.

Frost, for example:
0-12 the year before he arrived
6-7 his first year
11-0 year two

We have some good players but we are far from loaded. We are closer to a Vandy roster than we are to a Bama roster.

Seems like Tennessee is below Vandy roster as Tennessee lost to em bad.. jus saying Tennessee needs major help or it could be the players dgaf and haven’t in awhile..

This team has very few SEC-level talented players you can win with in this conference. Kelly, Callaway, Smith, maybe Chandler and Johnson on offense. Gaulden, Warrior, maybe Bituli, maybe Sapp on defense.....that’s it.

It’s an awful team that was poorly coached, poorly developed, poor schemed. But a big element of this season's failures is the fact that the talent on this team is SEVERELY overrated. The unlucky guy who actually takes this crap job this week will have to all but completely turn this roster over as soon as possible and he better be a miracle worker with regards to changing a toxic culture.

The debate that we have a lot of talent on the team currently should be put to bed. Jones allowed at least a whole class to quit, get suspended or get away from the team. That leaves us with 50-60 good players at the most. And I am being generous. And the majority of them were not developed. No telling if these players will be able to be coached now.

Correct. And that Vandy roster just physically and athletically beat down the Tennessee roster that is supposedly talented. It’s just not true that this is a very talented roster.

We are loaded. Get used to hearing it. Sick of you and you're lack of football knowledge.

These are players Butch evaluated and thought were winners. I have no use for jones as a person or coach. I have even less use for him as an evaluator of football talent. Turn this roster over as soon as humanly possible.

Disagree. In think the roster needs some additions, but there is talent that just needs coaching and leadership.

Which is dumb to limit the search like that. There are very good coaches out there with no ties to UT who would be great hires.

This is so true. Look at how many coaches around the country who are not alums at the school and yet they have there teams playing legit football.

Doug wants someone with UT ties.
Phil
Gruden
Jim Bob
Cut
Tee
Clawfence
Sanders
who else?
besides chucky, Jim bob or Tee are the only ones that would bring any excitement or at least intrigue. Anyone else and east Tenn may go nuclear.

If we end up with any on that list outside of maybe Jim Bob or Tee, you will see chaos.

Roster is loaded. New coach will break them down and build them back into champions.

No roster that struggles with UMASS and gets manhandled by Vanderbilt is “loaded”.

We’re weak at QB, bad at TE, awful at TE, average at WR, and our OL is abysmal...we’re only very talented and deep at running back.

We’re bad and get physically beaten at DT and DE, we’re atrocious at CB, average at safety and generally bad at LB, although Sapp and Bituli have potential.

Stop with your ridiculous D4H routine, it’s not very becoming and it makes you sound like you have no earthly idea what you’re talking about.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. You may be right.

The answer I would I give is that Butch is so bad, we don’t know.

I base that as much on 2015 and 2016 as 2017.

I don’t have a clue what they’ve got until I see another coach with them.

I do, however, carry the mentality that Florida and Tennessee suck until they prove otherwise

Doug's a good ole boy who lost his inside info a long time ago and it's affected his work.

That we must have someone with UT ties is stupid and for yahoo simpletons. Saban had no ties to neither LSU or Alabama. Meyer had no ties to neither Florida or THE OSU. Stoops had no ties to Oklahoma. Pete Carroll had no ties to USC.

Matthews still thinks Phillip should have gotten more time to run us into the ditch and tries to ignorantly relate that to our bad hires since
