Chris Low: it's almost over final 3 candidates

Wow...that’s the list? Matt Campbell is a nobody. Greg Schiano...yawn! Out of those 3, better hope it’s Mullen. This is sad. If this is true...It’s official...Tennessee is indeed a 2nd tier school. Pains me to say it.

You guys are nuts...
That list is very solid for a mid-tier SEC program like Tennessee.
I just can’t see Mullens making a parallel move but I hope I am wrong. He’s our ceiling.

You sir is what’s wrong with Tennessee football expectation, mediocre candidates sold as solid hires. You must not be a Tennessee fan at all.

This list is probably factual. The cupboard is bare and it's worse than when Dooley left

There are a lot of ridiculous comments in this thread. Mullen and Campbell would be good if not great choices. Schiano would cause me to bail on the program

If it's really Schiano, it's going to be the worst hire in the history of this university. Worse than Dooley (at least you could pretend there was upside w/ Dooley). Terrifying to think he's being seriously considered.

His role in the Sandusky affair should disqualify him as is, but even ignoring that, his track record mostly consists of being a mediocre Big East coach who could recruit well. We already had that with Butch Jones w/o the ethical overhang of hiring a guy who protected Sandusky in order to further his own career. Not to even mention the fact that he's been a rather lousy DC at Ohio State. And he was known as one of the worst NFL coaches of all-time by a lot of knowledgeable people. Why even fire Butch Jones if you're going to downgrade to Greg Schiano?

I agree with this whole heatedly.

They'd be trading in a jackass with little man syndrome on the offensive side of the ball for a jackass with little man syndrome on the defensive side of the ball.

Neither of which has ever proven anything other than the fact that they are complete failures outside of a defunct, basketball-first conference.

It's already been reported that Tennessee has backed off Campbell, so it seems like Lowe either has bad information or old information.

Just an outsider opinion on Schiano; I think he's a bad hire because I don't think he's a great coach. It has nothing to do with the Sandusky/Penn State thing. And unless someone has official proof that he had knowledge of that, which I don't think anyone does, everyone should leave that alone. I say never soil a man's reputation, especially on a horrible accusation such as that, unless you have incontrovertible evidence. I totally respect you not wanting him as a coach, but back off of him over the Penn State stuff. Now if something comes out other that rank hearsay, I'll be right there with you condemning the man.

This isn't a court of law.

When there are other options, you don't take the risk on someone about whom it was testified under oath that he had knowledge of child sexual abuse.

Sorry.

The fact that Schiano and Mullen keep coming up by guys with "inside sources" proves that we've completely half-assed the coaching search. Look at Mullen's record vs SEC and vs top 25. It's going to be more of the same. Yall must really like losing to Alabama if that's who yall want.

As for Schiano, I don't give a rat's ass if he denies the Sandusky knowledge. The fact that a coach called him out in media (and in court?) should tell you all you need to know. You don't throw someone under the bus like that for professional or personal reasons. Yall are ignorant as **** if you think he wouldn't deny knowledge. If he admitted it, it would be career suicide. He will deny all the way to his grave.

And Campbell is a good fall-back that's it. You only go after him if you've struck out with the big dogs (Gruden, Patterson, Petersen) and a few other options behind them like Frost.

Personally wish we'd see more names at this point. The fact that cheap high risk high reward hires like Scott Frost, Chad Morris & Neal Brown haven't been mentioned much is a bit concerning. All 3 coaches' respective buyouts are $3M meanwhile Campbell is $9M + assistant buyouts.

Go ahead then and throw your grade school temper tantrum when somebody not named Gruden is announced. No one will care.

There’s other good coaches out there that I’d gladly welcome to UT.

How about having some damn pride in your school instead of just wanting to settle for less?

Y’all act like UT is a horrible job and doesn’t deserve an elite coach.

You want to talk about embarrassing? That’s what is embarrassing.

This thread title is misleading. Not sure where Low states this is the 'final' list. Sounds to me that this is the list of 'possible' candidates based on what he's hearing.

That said, this list is horrible. Like many of you, if it's Schiano, I'm done for multiple reasons.
