Gruden now has over 50 threads. Think @ that for a minute. We've got some legit insanity among us.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large #s.
Exactly. My uncle used to talk about the "Group IQ". You take the lowest IQ of any member of a particular group and divide it by the number of people in the group. That's how you determine the "Group IQ".
That principle may have never been demonstrated more clearly than it has been here over the past year or so.
Easy now...youll get chastised and called a Butch supporter and asked how you justify your Butch support if you keep that stuff up.
Yes they do. Some act like we had a chance at Chip and now that he is at UCLA they think we failed. It's over. We're doomed. Blah blah blah. If we get Mullen then we have upgraded more than most think. Enjoy the ride.
The problem is there aren't any coaches out there that we realistically have a shot at getting that are demonstrably better than Butch. That's why a lot of us preached patience when the pitchforks and torches came out last season. Congratulations, you whined until you got what you wanted. Now we've fired Butch. And the same people are acting surprised that we aren't going to get that imaginary home run hire? The one that has always been nothing more than a pipe dream?
I was a Butch supporter. I'll also support whoever the next head coach is. I think all Tennessee fans should.
I'm just more irritated at the way some of our less realistic fans are coping with the process.
And some of you think hiring another Butch would be fine. Butch2.0= another gamble on a name that doesn't move the needle.
You were probably preaching patience when Dooley was trying to beg his way out of his last season or when Bama took over Neyland in 2008 as they spanked Fulmer as well.
There wasn't a coach in the SEC this season that didn't show they were demonstrably better than Jones.
Because for the purpose of this exercise, that is a true statement.Apparently 90% of coaches in college football are Butch Jones.
If its not Gruden, Peterson or Lynch then it is and epic failure and there will be a mass exodus at Neyland. We will not be committed to winning and proof once again we will be the laughing stock of college football, and they would be right. If they didnt like empty Neyland Make the wrong hire and see what happens.
Because for the purpose of this exercise, that is a true statement.
Butch Jones is actually a pretty good football coach. He won before he came to UT, and he's going to win somewhere else now that he's gone. And there are a lot of "pretty good" football coaches out there who win, just like he does.
The problem is that "pretty good" isn't good enough to win at the level Tennessee wants to win at. To do that, at a place like Tennessee with a weak in-state recruiting base, requires an ace recruiter and a strong game-day coach, who can't ever have a bad day recruiting or at the office.
And that is bloody hard to find. And if you do find one, good luck convincing him to take your job, and not the one at Nebraska, or to take the easy way out and go coach at Florida, where he can sit on his ass in recruiting and still get enough talent.
For Tennessee, 90 percent of the available coaches ARE Butch Jones. We have to find one who is better than that, or else settle for something like 9-4 as the ceiling.
I've seen numerous negative comments about every coach that's been mentioned as a potential hire. Not enough P5 experience, is a mediocre coordinator at best, lost games while coaching HS ball etc. What amazes me is that the UT AD hasn't reached out to any of the experts in the fan base to make sure he gets the hire right. Healthy discussion is one thing, some of what's been said is downright pitiful.
Surely 90% of the available coaches arent a gameday and press conference disaster.
