Who's Still Being Considered as HC?

He's an absolute failure at his last head coaching job. He's failed for many of the same reasons Butch Jones failed at Tennessee.

An NFL head coaching position is a high profile job. Schiano cracked under the pressure of that position and his weaknesses were magnified.

Tennessee offers a level of pressure that is higher than what Tampa offers. Given the similarities in personality between Jones and Schiano, Tennessee would be taking a tremendous risk hiring a man who couldn't cut it under the white hot spotlight of an elite-level job.

You do realize he failed at NFL because he is a successful college coach and that style of coaching to make you successful in college fails big time in NFL.
Chip Kelly, Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, Greg Schiano

Big difference in coaching style for kids you control to coaching a team of players that are millionaires where half make more money than you do.

Frost is going to Nebraska.

Nebraska fans are sold on this but I believe we had a 99% chance of landing him had Kelly gone to UF. I think Frost sees Florida>UT>Nebraska in terms of fit, compensation and ability to win big. We are not out of it with Frost but Kelly going to UCLA is not the best case scenario assuming you want Frost.

Its a double edge sword. Kelly to UF would suck without a top notch coach like Frost but if Frost goes to UF and we wiff on Peterson and Mullen and have to resort to the 3rd tier of our list of Brohm, Norvell, Schiano etc... it will be bad imo.

Bcarter:
How do you rank those 3 I honestly believe that's the 3 at this point.

I'd go
Schiano
Norvell
Brohm

Still trying to figure out how it isn't Les Miles though

I refuse to rank any of those three. I say if its down to them just pull high card and get ready for another 5 years of roller-coaster.

Edit to add yes, please Miles over any of these three if we wiff on Frost now that UF is targeting him as their #1 as well.

I really dislike this list. If we're to this point, I think Campbell would be the best option. His body of work, albeit limited, is impressive.

I spoke with a friend today who reads anything and everything (internet and paper) pertaining to the coach search as well as recording all sports stations looking for any update. He called mad as Hell saying he had heard two names that now have made the list being Joe Moorhead OC Penn St and Neal Brown HC Troy. He went on to say presently the media is talking more about Schiano than any other coach. He said the only bright spot was one reporter felt Frost would come to UT based on a number of factors including the money UT is willing to pay. I would be happy with Frost but not so much with the others.

I think Frost's best option is to take the FL job for 5 or 6 years and build up P5 credentials then move onto the Big 10.

Schiano seems like a big gamble. I hate to play the 'what if' game, but what if something more comes out about what Schiano knew at Penn St.?

It would have came out before being hired by Ohio state

Or found by USC, Michigan, Oregon

Are you no longer 99% confident that Frost is the new HC of The University of Tennessee?

Nothing like getting your 3rd+ choice for the 3rd time in a row in a coaching search.

Here's to another 2.5 years of hope...

If we miss on Petersen and Mullen, Currie would be crazy not to seriously consider Willie Taggart. He took WKU from cellar dwellar FBS program to a bowl game. He took over at USF after Skip Holtz ran that program into the ground and rebuilt the program to an 11 win program. He took over at Oregon after Helfrich failed to sustain what Chip Kelly built and is in position to win 7 games with a team that won 4 last season. His career record may not be impressive, but he's taken over some tough situations and has shown the ability to elevate programs. He would be a great option if we don't land one of our top guys. He's a far better option than Schiano or Durkin.

I trust the info I got and if Frost does not come it will be his decision not Curries. As I said in my post before the worst thing happened, Kelly went to UCLA and I think Frost will be offered by Nebraska and UF in addition to us. With Kelly out of the picture I think there is a chance he bounces to UF.

The UF job has been the Achilles heel with regards to Frost to UT. I was and still am not concerned about Nebraska but stranger things have happened.

I know Frost has been Curries #1 guy for a while now and we can out offer Nebraska but not sure we can overcome a full court press by UF.

This is just a list of potential candidates for our HC:
Gruden: Most likely staying with ESPN.
Chip Kelly: Most likely going to UCLA or the 49ers.
Frost: Will be a very hot commodity, going to top bidder.
Leach: A proven winner, may leave WST if price is right.
Campbell: Another hot commodity. Will be on several short lists. He would probably be worth his buyout.
Norvell: Doing great job at Memphis. Riding Fuentes' coattails, or is he for real? Is he really ready for SEC level?
Mullen: Says he currently plans to stay at Starkville. Plans can change quickly if $$$ is placed on the table.
Kiffin: Great offensive mind, but has the Rugrat "growed up?" If he has matured, would UT ever want him back?
Schaino: OHST DC is generally pretty tough, but can be beaten... badly. He has been successful in his travels though and will make someone a good HC.
Morris: Another hot commodity. Has cleaned up the dumpster fire at SMU. Ready for SEC level?
Peterson: Huge buyout, probably not leaving Wash.
Fuentes: Great coach; proven record; $15M buyout; only been at VaTech 1 year... enough experience?
Brohm: Some say he needs more experience and are not impressed by his work at Purdue this year. Hey, its the Boilermakers! Have you seen their record the last few years?
Tedford: Great coach; great record; good recruiter. How would he do in the SEC?
Sumlin: Great record with Johnny Football. But what has he done since?
Petrino: Great balls of fire and a big cloud of dust everwhere he goes. Great coach offensively, but defense generally tends to be not so good. Love him or hate him.
Miles: No buyout; may get him off the Kmart blue light special rack (salary wise); will keep most games competitive; should win 8 or 9 games and go to a bowl game each year.
Strong: Did good with Cards; bombed at TX (just a bad situation?); doing great at USF. Good recruiter at SEC?

Of the bunch, in no certain order, I'd hope Currie considers Frost, Campbell, Morris, Leach, Tedford, and if he has matured... Kiffin. I believe any of these guys, for the money, would be the best bet for getting our program turned around and headed in the right direction. However, Currie may have an even better choice locked up right now. We can only hope.

I mention Kiffin because I think he has the potential to be a great college coach once he gets his head screwed on straight (matures). And, when that happens, I would rather have him coaching for us rather than against us. He will be coaching on the P5 level again sooner than later... if he remains coaching on the college level.
