Report: Tennessee not ruling out Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano

Article sites a source saying if Currie's main guys fell through its Schiano.

I would guess Kelly & Gruden would be the main guys they are referring to?
Kelly is a risky hire. Gruden's risks lie in whether he would want to put in the time needed to recruit and coach a CFB team.

Me
Personally I don't understand how it isn't Les Miles at Tennessee

Fired from LSU for being a perennial underachiever of the talent on his roster.

I have purposefully avoided making a "list" of favorites. But Miles heads a short list of guys I think would be HUGE mistakes.

Miles is this decades Phil Fulmer. Watched the game pass him by and was too stubborn to do anything about it.

Think John Currie's surprise surprise candidate that no one realistically thinks is possible is James Franklin. Winner with SEC experience. Franklin might want to move.

Willie Taggart pushing for Tennessee job.

More orange glasses. You're crazy if you think Franklin would leave PSU just bc we are in SEC. PSU is a much bigger job right now. I moved to Maryland and its nothing but Big Ten here... no one cares about SEC. Just shows you its all about where you live. Penn St is a top 10 program... UT is not.

LSU changed athletic directors during his time there. In college football that's very important to look at when a coach has a decline after that change is made. Look at Richt at Georgia.

Ad's have this desire to put their print on the football coach in the SEC and when you have a change those relationships get strained sometimes.

Miles is a proven winner. He is strange at times but the guy knows how to win, develop talent, and recruit talent, and his teams played tough football

And I doubt he would go to Tennessee. Sure just like every other power 5 coach would use it for more $$$ at their current school.

Oregon has plenty of 💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵

Taggart would be a great get for Tennessee IMO
He has a easier setup for success already at Oregon.

They will give him more money based on his second half of the season.

Taggart is 46-50 in 8 seasons as a head coach. In those 8 years he has 1 good season........why exactly are people high on him? 3 losing seasons, 1 season better than 8 wins, only 2 seasons of 8 or better.

His staff, great recruiting, and he built up some programs. He is a good coach about 6th on my list.

But like I said nothing to see here IMO look for an extension and raise at Oregon....

This cycle with so many job openings. A lot of coaches and agents are about to get more $$$$

I am convinced what Briles did was under the orders of the same idiot who tried to impeach a president because of oral sex. He didn't witness anything. Call me crazy but I might at least get his side of it and maybe let him be on support staff until he can restore his reputation if he was not intimidating victims.

But to witness what was happening in that shower and your inaction leads to more and more kids raped and molested? I really can't understand how those guys live with it.

Not totally sure what you're trying to say here... but Clinton was impeached and should have been removed from office for committing perjury in a criminal investigation... and it doesn't matter what it was about. You cannot have a just criminal system if you don't now strictly enforce perjury laws.... ESPECIALLY on the most powerful.

Miles is a proven choker. That's why LSU fans call him 2-loss Les.

He's just a modified version of Jones. Stubborn. Not very intelligent comparatively. Good recruiter. Poor developer. Always finds a way to underachieve his talent.

No thanks. He's probably the worst name being mentioned IMO.

The only people that are just blown away impressed by the SEC is fans of SEC teams . The truth is the SEC is not as dominate as it was. I think top to bottom we may be behind some of the other conferences. Bama being so dominate on the field and recruiting has hurt the SEC as a whole.

So you would want his staff? Not just the best staff people could bring? Also many coaches could bring in a good staff to Tennessee.

He did help to build WK......but not South FL..... They had already done well.

But I don't see anywhere in his resume that he should even be considered at Tennessee.

Just my opinion but. Losing record only one good season........ But helped to build WK....... Does not spell coaching job at Tennessee to me.

Yep that is why the sec loses most of their bowl games......they suck.

I agree why I said he would be about 6th on my list of coaches that I think Tennessee could even have a realistic shot at getting.

Richt was fired for same reason.

I dont want Schiano either, but i am curious as to when America went to a guilty until proven innocent society?

If we are pressing formal charges and a bad verdict could lead the accused to years of being unfairly imprisoned, you assume innocence until proven guilty while sitting in a jury box.

If you aspire to have a high character football program, and a coaching candidate was at Penn State during the time of Sandusky, you quickly realize you want innocence proven and you aren't on jury duty this week.

If Butch goes to a Big Ten team and starts winning, should Georgia fans try to convince us we messed up firing him?

We can break our arms patting ourselves on the back for retorts, but at some point your program makes decisions and lives with them. And instead of attempting clever argument, you go with your gut. Miles is risky with his play calls. At times, he took risks that were bat 5h1t crazy at LSU. But they worked. Were his team as fundamentally sound as they needed to be? Some don't think so, but you might. Richt seemed to go conservative at times, which wore on Georgia fans after several years.

You may think your point made sense, but it seems to me both got fired for opposing reasons, and trying to draw a parallel between the two is a lost cause.

I disagree. I’ve heard over and over that Taggart desperately wants to get back to the Southeast.

Btw, he’s 2-4 the last 6 games/second half of the season, average margin of loss a little over 29 points per game ....why exactly will Oregon throw a ton of money at him?

He desperately wants a raise. I'm sure his agent is putting out stories to get that done.

And yes Oregon will throw out more money at him. Because nobody wants to be out there this year looking with all the openings.

From John Brice....

John Currie didn’t go to Starkville today as had been expected. But folks on campus are preparing for the end of UT’s search:

He desperately wants a raise? In year one? Sitting at 6-5? Have you discussed this with him? Sure doesn’t seem to have much leverage. And as I documented, his second half of the season has been worse than his first half.....I don’t think he’s in much of a position to expect a raise.

Actually, plenty of people are good with being “out there” or they wouldn’t have fired their head coaches imo.
