The basketball team is going to Paradise Island, Bahamas. Bahama is a soverign country and not part of the Virgin Islands. Jimmy Hyams is wrong again, as usual.

I know plans change, but Currie himself said he won't be going on that trip.....but his family will. He stated this on the pre-game show with Bob on Saturday evening. If he did end up going, it's a good sign in my opinion that things are done and we're just waiting on the formal announcement. JMHO

An example of expectation management in high-profile job searches? Man, if you haven't seen this many times over the years yourself, you really haven't been paying attention.

But sure, since you need the help, here's one from just last month:

Ole Miss Athletic Director Ross Bjork contradicts report, says he's 'not interested' in Nebraska A.D. opening | Big Red Today blog | omaha.com

This is about an AD search, not a head coach search, but it's the same animal: expectation management.

Now don't get pedantic and complain that "this isn't about a head coach" or "this isn't recent enough" or "this isn't about Tennessee, it's some other place."

Expectation management is expectation management, and it happens all the time.

Someone has been to the school of beind condescending to try to make a point when they don't have actual facts to back up; also double points for trying to railroad the obvious (and correct) comebacks to your example.

It's happened so many times that the only example you can give me is an AD saying he's not interested in another job, which contrary to your special pleading is NOT the same thing as what you're describing. Coaches and ADs saying THEY are not interested in a job happens literally every year.

But again, not the same thing you're suggesting. I'll ask again, when has an AD specifically come out and said "We are not interested in [insert coach]". And don't try to just shove it under some "expectation management" bulls***; you know very well it's not the same thing.

"Jimmy Hyams, interviewed this morning on 104.5 Nashville, said not to expect anything about our new HC until after the SEC Championship Game. He said Currie is going to The Virgin Islands with the men's basketball team all this week. Take that for what it's worth vis-a-vis the hiring process."..."Don't believe anything unless it comes from me"..Currie

Currie won’t be in the Virgin Islands.

But, if he’s going with the men’s bball team this week he’ll be in the Bahamas. :clapping:

The only significance is that is the date Currie is telling recruits and their parents that he will have a coach in place by, no later than etc... The date itself is more of a "On or before" thing than a date carrying special meaning.

Exactly.

It is not a date you build an announcement around. It's simply a deadline pulled from the air as a way of saying, "Having time to do recruiting things prior to 20 December is important to us."

Otherwise, no meaning. If you want to pick the probable dates for an announcement, you can safely ignore it.

zackly. Search is finished. Now in the quiet period, waiting for announcement day (which is already set, we just haven't been told).

"This coaching search will be my sole focus, and I will be in regular contact with Chancellor Davenport. I want to emphasize my commitment to hiring the best coach for the University of Tennessee." --- Opening remarks by Currie after firing Jones.

There is absolutely no way you fly to the Bahamas for Basketball (even for a day) unless you have your hire imo.

My thoughts exactly.

Jimmy thinks our basketball team and AD are going to the Virgin Islands for the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas?

Ooooookkkaaayyy

John Harbaugh: Not sure if the rumors of him reaching out are true or not. Would be a splash hire but something tells me the rumors are exactly that.

Mike Gundy: Again nothing makes me think he would come to UT. We already got him one raise.....

Chip Kelly: UF or UCLA. I lean my opinion he leaves the Gators at the altar and goes Bruins

Jimbo Fisher: Possibly but not likely imo

Les Miles: I think Les would jump at the chance but not sure UT would offer him very high on the list.

Gary Patterson: Lots of rumors about him initiating contact with UT circulating a while back. May just be rumors but would be a good fit and a GREAT hire imo.

Lane Kiffin: I would be happy to take him back in a heartbeat under the right terms, with some UT blood on staff and on a short leash until proving he can run the program without constant oversight. I have always said if the main reason people are pissed is that he left (I know I know, how he left) then how can it be a bad decision to bring him back?

I mean no disrespect but you’re really starting to lose a lot of credibility with me. Mullen in your top 3? You would welcome Kiffin back? WTF man. This hire will make or break this program. You would really be ok putting all our eggs in the Kiffin basket again? You’re ok with hiring mediocre Mullen? SMDH.

Gundy: we don’t have the means to start a bidding war with an oil tycoon no matter what Currie is pushing

Kelly: UCLA

Fisher: if our gator posters are telling us his players spend as much time in trouble with TPD as they do on the practice field I don’t think any of us want him at Tennessee. Not to mention the money side of it and the team he’s got returning

Miles: I’ll admit it when I first heard Jones was out he’s the guy I immediately thought of. He’s a typical Tennessee hire through and through. He’d be cheap enough and doesent carry a buy out.

Patterson: He’s on record as saying he’s happy he didn’t entertain the phone call in 2012 and didn’t like the way Currie handled things at KSU. Rumor has it they’ve patched things up. He’s got a solid team returning so I doubt it’s him plus he’s pushing 60

Kiffin: Here’s another guy who’s went on record to say he would do things differently if he could. Do I believe him, he’ll no. He’s nothing more than a used car salesman. Someone said he just wants to build his character up to get a chance in the league. I’ll buy that.

I am not looking for credibility just sharing what my personal thoughts are on each candidate. We can disagree it happens all the time. Responding to the post asking what people thought about that list and those are my thoughts.

I am not making the hire and in a dream land I can think of dozens of people I would rather have than Mullen or Kiffin. Realistically however neither of those hires would cause me to crawl under my bed and burn my UT gear lol.

FWIW.. To those of you who are worried about Norvell:

I live in Memphis and I'm engaged to an Ole Miss fan... Most of the talk around Norvell out here is that he might leave for Ole Miss. No one is really talking about the Ole Miss opening because they appointed Matt Luke to HC for this season, but Matt Luke is still an interim. They are looking to hire a permanent coach at the end of this year, and it will not be Luke. He only got the job because he's from a blue-blood Ole Miss family and they needed someone ASAP when the Freeze hookergate story broke. A lot of people, on both the Ole Miss side and the Memphis side, think it will be Norvell.

So will west on WNML 99.1 just stated, “Boosters were telling media members this weekend that Gruden to Tennessee is a done deal. Again I’ll believe it when I see it, but that’s what the boosters were saying.”

You seem to enjoy making that statement. You have placed yourself in that enviable win/win situation. You're right and TN suffers, or you're wrong and TN wins. I'm not certain which you prefer.

UT doesn't necessarily suffer if Gruden is not hired. He's not the only one who can coach football. Heck, he hasn't even done it in a decade
