whew...the tone has certainly changed. sensing a lot of anger...

is it a general consensus that if it's not Gruden, it's a failure? i see some patterson, peterson, franklin talk as back ups...but are those guys really "back ups"? i mean, wouldn't those guys be Plan A guys anywhere else?

Come on Boro, we are TENNESSEE!! As a fan, it is our duty to support our beloved vols, regardless who the coach is. We may not like it, but we have to respect it or the only thing that will suffer is the University. If we as a fan base aren’t the most supportive and enthusiastic in all of football then we are only hurting ourselves when the time comes, for yet another hire. Nearly every presser that introduces a new college football coach, the new coach always talks about the “great fans” of that particular team. No matter who the coach is...WE SHALL ALWAYS SUPPORT!!

Current list of coaches and I cannot get behind
1. Dan Mullen
2. Greg Schiano
3. Mike Norvell
4. PJ Fleck
5. Les Miles
6. Any current DC not named Venables
7. Anyone from FCS
8. Mike Bobo
9. Mike Macintrye
10. Coach McGoogle

So? After looking at that list, I can assume that you would be happy with Tommy Tuberville or David Cutcliffe? :whistling:

But let's be real, the tournament is not in SFD (no offense) or Kodak (is that better?), it's in the dang Bahamas! And as AD what exactly do you HAVE to do before a basketball game? You just show up to your nice seats, right? But the rest of the time you are killing it on the beach.

So it's not like it's some drudgery following the BB team to the Bahamas IMHO.

One of two things: (1) Currie has his man and he's just chillin', waiting for the timing of the announcement, or (2) he has failed to get Gruden and he knows his days are numbered so he's trying to relax while awaiting his termination.

You sound like me when we hired Butch. I'm done with that crap. Gruden or bust.

Now that's a winning attitude. :good!:

By the way, I don't think anybody felt Butch was a good hire. We were just hoping for the best. Mullen (probably most coaches on our radar) would beat Butch 7 out of 10 times with less talent.

If Gruden and Currie did a co-press conference saying Gruden does not want to coach but UT did everything possible but Gruden doesnt have it in his heart of hearts to coach, who is your top 3?

Gruden again (make him keep saying no)
Harbaugh
no idea

Agreed. Unless Harbaugh is really interested.

I have heard the arguments that it is OK to have an A**hole on the sidelines as long as it is your a**hole. I have never been one to put wins over a coach I cannot stand. Some of the names mentioned in this search I can tip my hat to being good (possibly great) coaches but would personally not like to see them on the sideline. This includes Harbaugh, Kelly and Franklin. Would they do well? I definitely think Harbaugh and Franklin would kill it but would find myself supporting the team and players while still not truly behind the coach I would not want my kid playing for - Of course this is only my opinion so TIFWIW

Actually feels much less angry in here than in recent weeks. You see more angry people come in here whenever there is something positive being said on the Gruden front.

FTR, I do not have nor claim to have any inside "sources" to this and everything I say is opinion only with this.

I have one go to guy.... he has been correct with every coaching search we had past Fulmer, however the Administration has changed and I do NOT believe that anyone has information like they use to.... even when he told me 50% Gruden...he said I should be cautious ...

I believe this is GREAT advice for everybody in this search

Times have changed!

I wish people would stop asking me that....my opinion doesn't matter. And I already answered, multiple times.

It does not have to be Gruden for me to be satisfied, but they better swing for the fences.

It's the duty of the administration to get Tenn the best coach it can. The fan bases commitment has been there forever. But hiring out of the sun belt and mac or any non proven winner is not going to be accepted any longer by a large part of our base. And that is FACT! SOON! GRUDEN TO TENNESSEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would he be fired for not landing Gruden? From all accounts he's done anything and everything to get Gruden to say yes, if Gruden says no then that's on him and not Currie.

He will not be fired for not landing Gruden, and if he was I'd seriously question the decision makers up there
