Official Gruden Thread 38

That was on Pennington this morning, He said a booster told him that a sitting SEC coach, not named Mullen, is on the list. He also said that at least two coaches that could be on the list have said they want no part of it because of the frenzy over Gruden (didn't say they were offered just said don't call me).

Malzahn?

You do have to wonder with some of the craziness we have for gruden (stalking planes, stalking and following Currie, twitter insanity hah) if a plan B coach would be reluctant to do it due to the fan base not being happy with him because he’s not gruden

So, why not make an announcement early on to put out the Gruden fire if it is affecting the coaching search. Makes no sense, what so ever.

Ok, here is the relevant portion of what AV said:

People who read into this statement that AV is specifically referencing a contract as opposed to an announcement are reading a bit more than what AV stated, in my opinion. I think it is a stretch, with much respect to JP, who I saw post that was his opinion, and others who agree with him.

There is certainly nothing in that paragraph that makes me question what I believe to be true regarding the agreement.

I respect your opinion and hope you are correct!

In addition to the part you quoted, AV also went on to talk about plan A and plan B. Putting the two together, I think most people would think he was referring to the deal still being in its normal progression as opposed to being “done.”

Well, Exile, on the "deal versus announcement" scrutiny, I really don't have an opinion. I used to, but AV has given me pause. I simply don't know which Atlanta Vol meant. Occam's razor says he was talking about a deal...but Occam's razor can be wrong, too.

So now we have a cat inside a box that might be alive or might be dead, and we're not (yet) allowed to peek inside the box. So it exists in both quantum states simultaneously, for me. Which is why I'm less sure than I was before AV posted.

But far from convinced either way. If that makes any sense, heh. :good!:

They said they did not know any names and that the AD's office is totally quiet. Indicated that if there were leaks, someone could lose their job for leaking. The press knows nothing and likely will not until the announcement is ready to be made.

I'm saying that could be who they're talking about.

How it should be

Unfortunate for us tho

I'm a huge Patterson fan as a plan b. But I really want the Gruden

Right there with you. Gruden would be a game changer of epic proportions for everything involving TN Football. The recruiting boost, perception of TN Football in general and not to mention the financial benefits TN would gain. I would give him absolutely anything he wanted just like Ala did and still does for Saban.

That’s what I’m afraid of. The longer Gruden lets this drag out, the more it hurts our chances with other candidates

AV strikes me as someone who knows what he is saying. He was explicit about tracking planes. He was vague on the "deal" and the "plans." I think he is very aware of the importance people here place on his words, so I'm cautious to attribute statements to him that he didn't make.

We good though, I'm not taking any comments directed at me personally. I enjoy the discussion, and as I've said, reasonable minds can differ. :)

That is the point, and they compared it to Conzo Martin after Pearl's departure. No one wants to be a second choice, not the ones we are going after anyway.
