Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLIV

Looked at Swain's Twitter. He basically said his sources are former players. Said some have been contacted by Gruden about being on staff. Those same players are now saying he's not taking the job.

While I don't trust Swain, it makes sense. Whether or not you plan on taking a job, you still send feelers about potential staff.

Hubbs basically said brohm was too large of a buyout, so he wouldn't even talk about that.

Seems to believe the Frost to Nebraska rumors.

Mullen a logical choice that we could get on quickly with their last game being Thursday.

And called Norvell the hottest thing around in the lower ranks.

Gosh it’s hard being so right. Norvell talk just keeps coming.

Outside of Frost right?

The Mullen debate has made me sound anti Mullen because he wasn't my first choice. But not true. I think he's a really good coach and agree with those who say he has an extremely high floor.

I don't have an answer for you and I don't want to be the one deciding that. I'm kind of a risk-taker to be honest and that doesn't always work out.
I love the thought of no longer being a laughing stock but at the same time, .. helicopter ****.

Six of Mullen's seasons have had conference records of .500 or less. Only 2 of his seasons have had Winning conference records. During that time, he's had two games playing opponents in the extremely weak east. Dan Mullen is a good coach. He's not a championship level coach. If you're ok with losses to FL and GA and Alabama every year, going to the outback, music city, and belk bowls, then he's your guy.

That tells me we've moved on from Gruden. On to plan B.

If not, we will soon. I think Currie is smart enough not to put all his eggs into one basket. He is moving and has been all week to his B, C ect. and will decide once he gets a go from a coach. Hope one of the top guys does it soon. However, my biggest take is this COULD take a lot longer than they first expected it would. Our class may implode BUT more important to get the hire right.

Hubbs still better at his job than all those guys. Don’t care if Rucker and Pat Brown have never misspelled a word in their lives.

I have an English degree. Reading Rucker's articles reminds me of the good ole days when I was writing a paper and really didn't have anything to say but needed to stretch it out to reach a certain word count. Most of his articles are just him using a lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

Nothing has changed yet. Nothing new. Still think it’s in his lap to decide is what I was told and like you said it could be erroneous but is someone I have known for almost 20 years.

My guy is telling me nothing. I think he knows something. He's very good friends with CPF, and David Blackburn. He's got to know something.

Seriously this is the gift that keeps on giving:

Official Grumor Template 2017:

(Choose an opening line)
1. “I’m not an insider or trying to get E-cred here”
2. “I’ve been a member since (min. 5 years) and don’t post often but”

(Choose Source)
1. “My (Relative) who is a well connected and established business person”
2. “A well respected poster on tos”
3. “A source close to the program”

(Choose meeting site)
1. Tampa
2. Cherokee CC
3. Charlotte

(Done deal?)
1. Yes
2. Yes but working out final details
3. Offer is on the table, Gruden still mulling

(Time of presser?)
1. Today
2. Tomorrow
3. After Vanderbilt

(Out/safety net)
1. Something happens on the plan
2. Few control issues gruden wasn’t ok with.
3. Beverly/curry drops the ball on it.
4. Power players pulls the offer

(Closing statement)
1. Just passing along info from a very trusted source
2. I have no reason to lie or troll.
3. This is much different than 2012
4. Soon.

Go Vols.

Just caught this in the FF:

Yes we spoke last night. He has trusted people in the university who he believes and is fully confident. I believe him as I believe my chattanooga guys. My most trusted guy said this week and has not wavered from it. Exile believes this week as well. Interestingly DTO came in and said the same.

However, if AV was to say otherwise then something has happened that no one is aware of or our booster/university connections are giving out bad info. I do not see this many trusted people (at least in my case) purposely giving out wrong and misleading info. These are successful business men with familes and aren’t teenage trolls. Some are family friends from years.

I’ve been told by each second and third hand source that this is so much different than 2012 and to stop worrying. I have a hard time trusting people that I do not know, so I understand everyone skeptiscm here. However, I choose to believe I am being told accurate and honest information.

I agree with all of this. I'm pretty much a Mehlen guy. But it's starting to feel like ending up with someone substantially worse is a real possibility. Butch's egregious mismanagement of the team has once again made this job look like a total rebuild.

All things considered, taking a guy with a higher floor but lower ceiling is starting to look more appealing by the day.

Right - and I think we all assumed if you go after Gruden the money has to be there.

So Gruden is still being timid about it and the issues aren't money? Not a good sign.

I think there was a ton of additional leg work on his end to make sure he could get everything in place that he would need to succeed, more so than other guys stepping up to this job, that would accept it and figure it out later. IMO.

I don't think either side was in a hurry to do this publically til after the season was over and Currie has been working on his backups in the meanwhile.

Screw the class, get the right guy. Now if this takes till Dec 20, and he rolls out Jonny Mc Google. It will, reinforce my feelings about this university's competency.

so, reading between the lines, Baldy and Atlanta have both said Gruden has been offered (because we all know who everyone wants) and it's not chump change. It's not going to be about money if he turns us down. So, he hasn't accepted, but I think he hasn't turned us down yet.

Then we move to phase two etc. Sounds like Curry is talking to others too while waiting on Gruden and is doing everything possible to secure the best head coach.

My opinion is this.
