It's time we made a statement hire, and Norvell or Morris aren't the kind of statements I'm talking about. As far as Up and comers go, I'm sort of Frost or Campbell or bust.

Yea but that's totally different than comparing Norvell and Morris to Dooley and Butch. Both those guys actually ran an offense at a P5 program before being coaches at a G5 school. Dooley and Butch did not. That line of thinking just doesn't make sense to me. They may not be what we want, but they are good coaches and I think will eventually succeed at a P5 school.

But with a much better record and a lot younger

Morris had a whole lot more success as an OC and won at a high-level there, and then took over a worse program in SMU and has built it himself to a level comparable to Memphis with a better offense.

I don't see why age has any influence on a HC, they aren't putting on any pads

If we're offering Gruden $10.2 million, throw the same offer at John Harbaugh and $9 mil at Patterson or Petersen. Or the same offer to them as well. Do we want to win again or not? Whatever it takes to get them to listen. They'll pay for themselves many times over if we start winning again.

There's no way we r offering gruden or any other coach that much money. The guy hasn't coached a football team in 10 years. Never been an ncaa HBC.. come on..

That's what I say. If they're willing to throw that kind of offer at Gruden why would they not make a similar one to Patterson, Peterson or Harbaugh? I'd take any of those three over Gruden.

Doesn't campbell have a losing record?

Maybe. All I know is that his team has played way over its head a few times this year and won. It's not like he's in my top 10 or anything, and I'm not sure that I'd feel much better about him being the guy than I did when Jones was announced.

Don't have to offer the full amount.

Morris and Norvell are 3-4 million coaches. You telling me there are none that would be interested between 4-10?

You're probably right. It's just tough to know which coaches are willing to leave their current situations. I don't know if money makes the difference.

Age is a big deal to kids they're recruiting. That's why cutcliff, miles, Fulmer would never work right now.

Clemson seems to be doing pretty well on offense without him

You would take them? Shucks, to that's enough for me, let's go ahead and make Patterson, Peterson, and Harbaugh God-Emperors of east TN.

Gruden is offered 10+ mil, in part, due to his charisma and celebrity. That's something those other three guys don't have.

I think you have to get into the prestige factor of making them one of the highest paid coaches in all of football. Giving someone Saban-level pay is a quick way to get their attention even if they are happy where they're at.

Harbaugh also has a Super Bowl and is still coaching. Patterson and Petersen are arguably top 5 coaches in CFB and definitely top 10. Sustained success. Petersen has done it at two programs and Patterson is basically peak Fulmer right now.

Like gruden won off the back of the previous coach at tampa?

Here we go again with this.

1. NFL coaches don’t recruit, they have GMs that draft and sign players.

2. Gruden beat his former team in the super bowl. The same team he would have taken to the super bowl the year before if not for a bogus “tuck rule” that no longer exists

3. Tell me again how many Super Bowls Dungy won with those players in Tampa?

4 score and what, 15 years ago?

My point was, u can play the "he's winning off the back of ----" with all kinds of guys.
