Am I the only one that thinks Venables would be a good hire?

No, he has been the DC in 6 BCS national championship games and could be 7 after this year. He is a tremendous recruiter too and has been in the South long enough to recruit GA, TN, and NC well. You may could get an A+ DL coach like Marion Hobby to come to Tennessee from Jacksonville since they were at Clemson all those years together.

Coach Gruden says pack the stadium.....Vol fans would pack the stadium.

Not gonna happen but that would be awesome.

IF ITS GRUDEN (big if)

Biggest reason I don’t think we can announce before 11-26 is FFCA. FFCA is about treating fires coaches with respect including assistants. We still have 8 assistants trying to hold this team together for 2 more games. 8 days longer than that issue is gone.

Even though it is eternity to us, to the rest of humanity it is not that long to wait.

Edit: removed the double negative.

I like venerable but I just don’t know how he can run a team. At this point we have been promised a “home run hire”. i don’t think there is an assistant out there that meets that criteria.

That's because we fired him on VN a month ago

Fired him down in Gainesville. As soon as they caught that Hail Mary I looked at my buddy and said “we are hiring a new football coach.”

I think we all knew it was over at that time.

Georgia sealed the deal though.

Florida game was a microcosm of his career here. Had the win served up to him and he refused to take it. One of the most frustrating games I've ever watched.

That’s funny because i remember saying the same thing to a buddy of mine in Neyland against Florida....

....in 1998.

When Phil took a knee near mid field with a tied score and 1:30 to play, I was way above pissed. Spurrier plays to win. Phil plays not to lose. Yadda yadda. A guy missed an easy kick and the rest was history. I guess I just proved:

A) i don’t know what I’m talking about
B) i have no influence

Just saw an interview with Kiffin in ESPN. To be honest the guys sounds like he has grown up a lot. He definitely won thy interview. I know it’s herrasy, but....

Fulmer had good reason to play conservative though. Team was built to grind the opponent down into dust and he had elite coordinators.

Butch played conservative because he was scared of making a mistake, and that rubbed off on the players.

Guy asked last night why Dale Jones and this was my response.....

Easy. 10th assistant being added soon so you’ve got room to play with. Needs someone he can trust who can start day 1.

Also dale is 53 and I’m not sure what he makes there. We could be putting him in Strip’s role or something like that. Could possibly make more sitting behind a desk at UT and be an hour from his hometown of Cleveland.

But left out that Dale Jones was a player here while JG was a GA here. Trust factor.

Fulmer was a conservative coach and it's ok to not like that. But he knew how to coach even if it was conservative.

Jones with the timeouts for opponents, hurryup while needing to milk the clock, red zone offense and player selection, was just mind-boggling.

Here’s the quote from babyvol on numbers...TIFWIW

The 7 for 70 and 13 million for staff is same numbers I’ve heard. @ChattaVol06 told you guys about the plane earlier today. “Gruden will be soaring over the SEC”. The plane didn’t go to Boliver to see Norvell, it took some brass to check out a plane for recruiting. Go Vols!!!

That’s number I heard, keep in mind that would be all staff. We get to add an extra coach this year as well. Analysts and COO probably included in that number. It’s time to play with the big boys!

I’m definitely not suggesting butch was anything but the Suck. It just reminded me of my statement in 1998. I was definitely wrong that day. I wanted perfection and Phil ended up delivering it. Just not how “i would have done it”. He knew better. Mad respect for CPF now.

Butch was going nowhere fast.

I just don't get why people think that kiffin is a good coach. He went 7-6 here. Failed at USC, failed in the NFL, and won a national championship under saban. Is brian daboll all of the sudden a god of coaching? I mean, winning at alabama should reflect on more of saban's coaching ability, not his coordinators. Kiffin seems to be doing ok at FAU, but compared to Norvell he's not. Most I think would consider Norvell a bad hire, butch 2.0. Why does everyone think kiffin can coach?

Fulmer won a lot of games we easily could have lost. For Jones it was the exact opposite.
