Anyone expecting an announcement before the end of the regular season was living in fantasy land. It's just not done in college football. It was like pulling teeth to get Currie and the power players at UT to even fire Butch before the season. Remember that Hyams story had this detail: "Butch was given the opportunity to coach out the last two games, he rejected it." If Currie had been planning on Gruden that entire time, it's clear he would have waited for Butch to finish the season until he announced Gruden. As fans, we get really impatient because we want change, but Currie and his staff have a reputation to uphold. You don't announce hires when you still have a full staff even if the head coach is an interim. It just doesn't happen.

So it may very well be that Gruden has agreed or is still considering UT. Maybe, UT has moved on to other options. If those other options are Mullen or Patterson, then we should all be very happy. Any of this Mullen hate on here is absolutely ridiculous. He would be a home run hire. You'll see multiple teams fighting over him once silly season really starts. I've been in here all day, every day, and I need to heed my own advice: Take a deep breath and let this process play out. We've got the money, the talent base, and the facilities. We're not going to dip down into that bottom tier.

Good post until I came to the word Mehlen.

Another thing I think about is Gruden's "I'm real sensitive to the coaches out there" comment on Mike and Mike.

Well, we still have coaches working hard to win two games and send the seniors out with a bowl win. Gruden is a fired coach himself. He doesn't want to do anything that could be perceived as hurting their ability to go out and win a game and get the fans behind them down the stretch with two home games left.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of his agreement when signing the contract was making sure the rumors got squashed for a while so that fans would briefly move on and support the team while the season is still in progress.

Yep. Meant to put that in there with my 11/26 at the absolute earliest part.

I still have a ton of things lining up that make me believe.

I 100% believe Catbone. I believe he was here this week. And he was here unseen. Unlike the South Carolina game where he strutted around town being a boss.

LWS confirmed that he was in East TN the week of the So Miss game. Supposedly this was predicted by Hutch 7. If it was him that said it would have then that gives credence to Hutch and the things he has said.

Gruden showed up on campus this year for a game which has never happened.

The announcement isn’t coming until 11/26 at the earliest imo. No matter who we target and ultimately hire. I think it will be Gruden on 11/28. Until then we will get misdirection and denials.

I believe that Gruden bought that house. Nobody even knew that house was on the market and then we hear he bought it. Hank brought that here before I saw it anywhere. Days before it spread as I recall.

If you believe the report by 247 then he did that interview and brought up UT after hearing our pitch. He asked to not be asked about coaching vacancies and then brings up how much he loves rocky top.

Espn is going to have to cut his pay.

He said on Eisen show that his contract is not guaranteed. You know what is? A coaching contract.

He has a huge ego and college coaches are rock stars. In the NFL, the players are the stars.

His wife is from here and his son goes to school here.

He’s been around this program more in the past 5 years than ever before.

Timing is right for him this time.

UT knows it has to go big this time. $340m renovation on deck and it’s not getting done with a mosquito hire.

At the end of the day I knew it was going to be a long shot landing Gruden, the idea of it was fun. Now time for Currie to get us a proven college coach.

I think a "tell" to watch for in the coming days are the names that get tossed around by Hubbs and co. If we start seeing new names randomly pop up like D.J. Durkin's did the other day, it's pure misinformation. And the worse the names we see, the better, IMO.

But on the other hand, if Hubbs starts really honing in on guys like Mullen or even Patterson, then I think the Gruden thing may actually be over and Currie will have turned his sights to other solid candidates.

Today we hit a wall and it will slow down. Football games all weekend. Thanksgiving next week followed by the games on Saturday.

Sunday after thanksgiving this thing is gonna hit fever pitch.
