LOL @ anyone that believes this.

The dead giveaway it's fake is the suggestion that Jimmy Hyams source is Haslam. Talk about laughable. No way someone as important as Jimmy Haslam is having conversations with a clown like Jimmy Hyams.

I would have believed it otherwise. But that part made this into a joke.

Haslam has bigger fish to fry right now anyway, with Pilot litigation and the Browns. I have no idea his level of involvement in this search, but I feel pretty confident he’s not worried about updating Jimmy Hyams.

When the UTAD wants to shape the narrative their go to is Jimmy Hyams.

He is the trusted source for the common fan. The average fan gets their UT news from 990 in the pm. And Jimmy is easily manipulated.

Hence Jimmy is adamant there was no meeting in Tampa. Meanwhile 247 is reporting there was and Hubbs is in the TAC air parking lot.

Can't disagree with any of that.

I don’t see (ESPECIALLY randy sanders who is currently employed) anyone’s potential assistant coach immediately telling people that they are being asked about working on a staff. Why go out of your way to leak info from your head coach? That would be a lack of trust red flag.

So you’re calling him a liar? Wallace said he’s known this coach for years covering CFB and has a relationship with him. Said the source gave him the ok to use his info as an anonymous source.

I think you jump to these conclusions a little too early man. So when Wallace said on the radio that he actually spoke with a coach who said he was contacted by Gruden to possibly join his staff at UT that’s all just made up? Prove it.

Yea, Ziti is off on this one, I think.

I hear ya. It may seem that way. But we don’t know for sure. In fact, a caller on his show last night tried to paint that same narrative and Jimmy wasn’t having it. Said the UT AD doesn’t hand feed him anything. Was that you calling in, ziti? :)

Hopefully all this is misdirection but if it isn't John Gruden and Lane Kiffin should equally be hated by this fan base. Attention seeking whore if this turns out to be the end.

It's Jon not John. :)

My read on 2012 isn't so much he turned down the job as much as it was he turned down our offer. He reportedly had a list of "demands" that the boosters in contact with him didn't think Cheeks/Hart would go along with. They offered to set up a meeting with Hart to see if something could be worked out. Gruden was adamant, his way or no way. He declined a meeting to "negotiate".

I'm under the impression this time we went to him with an offer consistent with what he was lookiing for. Money was not an issue in 2012 nor is it an issue in 2017. The issue in 2012 was control of the football program. If we've offered that this time around to his satisfaction, I think he'll be our next coach. I've always thought it was up to us to get him to say yes and so I've been in disagreement with those who said it's all up to Gruden. I've always believed he wanted the job, even in 2012, but not on the terms and conditions we offered. I have to assume we have people smart enough to know what has to change in our offer if we wanted him to say yes this time.

I know he's had Haslam as a source before. I always thought it was the elder Haslam though. Jimmy also is tied in with Raja Jubran.

Jimmy is too gullible to realize when he’s getting played.

They got Brice a while back and I’ve heard basilio say they conspired against Brice. And those guys talk so I would say it’s accurate.

Jimmy no doubt got two or three trusted sources to tell him no meeting in Tampa. Exactly like the UTAD wants him to think.

If he turns this thing down again after all of this he totally just hawked all over this fanbase. What a massive troll job if he does lol

LOL.

You guys are so gullible.

If a hire will not be officially announced until after the last game (10 days from now), don't you think reports like this would surface right after reports surfaced last night it was a done deal?

Urban Meyer to Ohio State played out exactly like this. And almost to the day. On November 17, 2011, an Ohio State website reported that Urban Meyer had signed a contract to be the next head coach of Ohio State. The next day the Ohio State athletic department and Urban Meyer deny the reports. Nothing is said for 2 weeks then Urban Meyer is introduced as the new Ohio State football coach.

If last night was real. And we have no reason to believe it wasn't. You had several trusted people like LWS saying it was a done deal and he said yes. Then you had VFLs openly rejoicing on Twitter. You should have expected hearing today some saying he said no. That's the only way to quiet the reports that he signed the contract Wednesday night.

Just look at every other big hire. This is how they've played out. An early report leaks it's a done deal. Major players deny. Then a short while later there is a formal presentation. If Tennessee is gonna wait until 11/26 at the earliest to announce a new football coach then what yoh heard yesterday trying to walk back the good news from Wednesday should be expected.

The thing I can't get past is Hubbs at TAC Air.

Its like the text he referenced in a post that he's spent 36 hours trying to walk back. He doesn't just reference texts from random slappys. I would think he doesn't run to the airport to stake out a private terminal just on message board rumors.

Something is/was up.

I'm with you on that. The other one for me is the Jauan Jennings thing. He's radio silent for months, then all of the sudden he's saying he'll return next year and we're going undefeated.

Almost everything else, in my opinion, has serious red flags.

I can see that. I can see his sources wording their responses in such a way as whatever they told him wasn't technically a lie. And,I don't see Jimmy hammering them for clarification.

The info that he possibly maybe turned us down was a murmur when it would have been a tidel wave with huge info from someone reliable. Can’t afford it to be at fever pitch come Saturday game cause you can’t announce him before the game.

Not necessarily a liar but that seems really juvenile of a potential assistant to basically immediately tell a media guy “hey i just got asked to be on grudens staff”. I believe that Gruden reached to out to former coaches and players to ask about the ins and outs of working here and a lot of behind the scenes vetting but not necessarily making plans to make them an assistant.

Did you know Randy Sanders has been told he will not be returning to the Seminoles?

Did Chancellor Davenport just leak the best Grumor yet?

Oh I don’t doubt he’s gullible and fed stuff without knowing it at times. I’m just saying I don’t think he knows that and is told he’s being fed info and told to read it verbatim.

If they don't have it announced by Sunday or Monday and this song and dance continues the likelihood of him ultimately saying no will go way up IMO

Not necessarily. If John Gruden and the power brokers think announcing a new head coach before the season is offically over is inappropriate (as Gruden implied on Mike and Mike this week) then not hearing anything this weekend shouldn't matter.

In fact, hearing the deal died is exactly what you would expect to hear as the powers that be try to quiet all the noise about Gruden being the next Tennessee football coach.

Like I said earlier, just look at how the Urban Meyer to Ohio State saga played out. Like Gruden he was out of football doing TV. Ohio State could have announced him during the season but they didn't. They waited until after the last game eventhough they officially agreed to a contract on November 17, 2011. And after that agreement was made, reports began to surface. Meyer and Ohio State denied the reports at the moment. Then 2 weeks later Urban Meyer is being introduced as the new head coach at Ohio State.

Just because nothing happens this weekend doesn't mean the deal is dead. It could also be part of the plan. To put out news that the deal died so as to quiet the noise over the next 10 days before an official announcement 11/26, the Sunday after the Vandy game.

I get you. You could be right. Mix in a little of the message board chatter with real stuff and he has more material.

Brice/Ramey story breaks yesterday. Within minutes he’s piggy backing.

Benjamin Albright says Gruden says no. Within minutes he’s piggy backing.

Piggy backer.

Doesn’t mean he doesn’t have good info at times. But he is 100% piggy backing and riding the waves.

The problem with this logic, of course is that, sure, maybe this looks a little like the lead-up to the Meyer hire. But you know what else it looks like? A lot of other searches where a candidate turned a school down... I mean, it’s one thing not to rule out Gruden based on tumbling that he turned the job down — it’s anotger thing altogether to interpret those rumblings as evidence that he accepted the job.
