Official Jon Gruden Thread 34

I've decided that Gruden is going to coach football next year. I don't think it's in the NFL. I don't believe it would be any school other than UT.

I believe his comment this morning about being sensitive to other coaches was in reference to coaches he's contacted personally or through agents.

I believe his comment about keeping the job he's got was referring to wanting to finish MNF.

No one else has to believe any of this. I've tried as best as I could to find logic and truth in everything I've read here, what I've heard on the radio and what I've heard myself from someone I trust. I want Gruden more than any other living coach, but I didn't want to "blind follow".

Sorry if tl'dr.

I'm firmly at 95%. Chit happens, but I don't believe it will. If it does it does? Life goes on.

wow u all in Behr; :hi:
it must be going to happen now

I am with you but at 90%..... I have openly posted my thoughts, my doubts and my questions.... I refused to come back in until I heard personally from a trusted source.... which I did last night..

I am now in till it is over

Gruden to the Hill!

The ONLY redeeming quality you have in this thread is your Avtar.

I mean, really......................who goes to someone else's house and complains about the food and stinks up their bathroom?

Catch up. This was not my intention. I came here for discussion only. I jag no idea that this thread was meant fit such honorisim. I thought it was a black abyss of all things Gruden

I think this is accurate as well

Thanks, DTO. Guessing this means the final piece of the puzzle Gruden was waiting to hear from said yes and it's all systems go..........

I’m just hearing good things. I don’t claim to be an insider of the UT Athletic Department or anything. I just happen to know lots of people that know things from time to time.

tl;dr but I read it anyway. :)

Here's what I believe, as of this morning:

-- Jon Gruden is pretty much locked in. He won't sign until he knows he has all the assets ($$) he needs to pay his dream team staff, and he won't know how much that is until he gets them all to agree to joining him; hence the hiccups.

-- As of yesterday or the day before, there were "a few" hurdles remaining on "Jon's side" (which I believe = luring in the assistant coaches he wants), and one hurdle remaining on the university's side (which probably has something to do with administration approval, or financing, or getting the state government to grant an exception to some state law that doesn't fit the Gruden agreement, something like that).

-- The big movement yesterday or the day before, where we saw insiders suddenly breathe one sigh of relief, was Tee Martin changing his mind (dunno how Jon & John convinced him, but I think they did). So Tee's gonna be our OC.

-- Two big things could happen today: getting the DC nailed down, and getting that university action taken care of. Maybe a third as well, with this rumor of wanting to find a place in the organization for Peyton, and talking him into it.

So yeah, I'm pretty psyched. I think this now has so much momentum that it almost can't fall apart. Almost, because anything can happen and the weirdest things sometimes do. But I think it's all really settling into place nicely. Still thinking Nov 27th +/- 7 days is the window for announcement.

DISCLAIMER: this is 100% speculation on my part, and a desire to give Behr another tl;dr moment. :)

Go Vols!

Respectfully disagree with your first bullet point. :)

Out of curiosity what are your predictions for the following seasons if Gruden does become the next HC given the talent level and state of our football program right now? What would be your prediction for recruiting classes in those same years.

I'll give first

2018: 7-6 to 9-3 holds together a top 15 class
2019: 8-4 to 10-2 and top 5 class
2020 9-3 to sky is the limit with another top 5 class

Just gauging what the expectations are from the fan base if he is hired. Also curious what your reaction would be if we were to go 8-4 or 7-5 in those three seasons.

I have always maintained I would love to have Gruden on the hill but also realize no one has a magic wand to fix all the problems in our program. As much as I would love to see him I do not view it as the end of the world if it doesn't happen there are several names I would be ALMOST as happy with.

You might be surprised at what good coaching will get out of these current guys we have now. Also, I think with Gruden we slip into the top ten in recruiting this year.
