Yep...it doesn’t even look right anymore. When I walk by the Lap location, I think of all the people singing Rocky Top in unison on the strip and bringing the cross bar from the day we shut Bo down. The students there now have no clue do they? So sad

the longbranch closed?

RIP. the strip is truly dead.:cray:

Well, Orange, you know me. You know I've been a football forum denizen these past couple of years. You probably don't know that I just discovered the Grudenite community a few days before you did, but it's true. I don't think they'd count e as one of their countrymen; I'm a newb here just like you and 83 and others.

I think their hostility to nay-sayers comes from the pain of 2012. Honestly, seriously, I think it runs that deep for most folks here. Apparently, some of them, like Boro and a fellow I don't know named DTO, really got treated harshly for supporting Gruden back then.

I drew an analogy to an isolated Pacific island tribe in another response, and the more I think about it, the better that analogy fits. The community here have not had positive experiences in the past, interacting with the wider VN.com community, and harbor some resentment. They're very protective of what they have (for good reason; it's a very nice community). They meet perceived hostility with hostility. But they don't chase you down and kill you; they just run you off their island. Happy to live and let live, as long as you let them be who they are.

And who they are is simple: Gruden fans. Believers that the best path forward for Tennessee football is with Jon Gruden at the helm.

Gotta say, I agree with them on that.

beautifully and articulately stated.
a like for you and a :hi:.

I've been following since before thread 33
Holy **** batman....no wonder you ain't bought a train ticket
I'm sure I'm late with this response and the group has explained things but you need to back up about a month in your thread reading....you can thank us later !

If nothing else Gruden quieted the doubters by saying he’s staying sharp and studying the game.

If he decides to coach he’ll be ready

I'm not calling anyone stupid. That's your words. When I see the official Jon Gruden thread, I see it as a source for speculation. Not blind believers. Maybe y'all need a new thread called Grudens bubble

Can you imagine a NegaGruden thread ? You talk about a hot mess , freak would have to have a 24/7 suicide watch and label it toxic .

Do you really think that Currie would sit idly by and let FL go after Kelly without a fight if he did not have a plan in place?

I think all signs point to Currie already has his guy and is locked in. That guy may or may not be Gruden, but since he is not using a search firm, he has someone locked in on his radar. And he has had this planned for a while now. Probably since about 5 PM on September 30.

i've been accused of having blind faith for a number of years now.

So if all i've got right now, regarding gruden becoming coach at ut, is blind faith, then let me quote a good book:
"now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

faith believes so strongly that even without substance, it still hopes.
Faith believes so strongly that even without evidence, it still sees and believes.

Now, here's the kicker about blind faith; the risk/reward. You see, the worst thing that happens if that which we've hoped for does not come to pass is, we're disappointed for a while and move on. But ...... If what we've hoped for comes to pass, the jubilation is off the charts!

When that which has long been hoped for provides substance ...
When that which has been believed provides evidence that is now seen ...

so go ahead, accuse me of having blind faith, and continue on with your miserable life, while i continue to hope and believe.
And if you are proven to be right, then sure, i'll be upset for a little while and get over it, while you continue on in a miserable existence.

And all of volnation said ...
amen

The strip is ruined. Dead to me.

The Longbranch closing was the last straw.
You know The Strip is now two lane with a turn lane? I had business downtown last Thursday about 2pm and decided to look at the "improvements". Took at least 15 minutes to go 6 blocks. It's a nightmare of a boondoggle.
