I think their hostility to nay-sayers comes from the pain of 2012. Honestly, seriously, I think it runs that deep for most folks here. Apparently, some of them, like Boro and a fellow I don't know named DTO, really got treated harshly for supporting Gruden back then.

I drew an analogy to an isolated Pacific island tribe in another response, and the more I think about it, the better that analogy fits. The community here have not had positive experiences in the past, interacting with the wider VN.com community, and harbor some resentment. They're very protective of what they have (for good reason; it's a very nice community). They meet perceived hostility with hostility. But they don't chase you down and kill you; they just run you off their island. Happy to live and let live, as long as you let them be who they are.

And who they are is simple: Gruden fans. Believers that the best path forward for Tennessee football is with Jon Gruden at the helm.

Nicely stated. I’m definitely new and have enjoyed these threads for what they are. I would love for Gruden to be named our coach but I also know it might not work out. What I don’t understand is the need for some to post condescending remarks as if they do know what will happen

That doesn't change the fact that there are very juvenile posts from both sides. As a long-standing member of the Grumors community on VN I'll post my opinion that the close minded, juvenile mindset and posts would be better left out of it.

Ah, I didn't know this about you. My apologies for not knowing you also are a Grudenite. :)

I don't count myself as one, but that's mainly because I feel really "johnny-come-lately" compared to all the folks who have kept the hope alive for five long years.

Definitely want Jon to be our next head coach, though. Think he's the answer.

He's undecided and while UT is waiting, Florida is going to hire the best college coach available in Chip Kelly. Chip Kelly to Florida is equivalent to Nick Saban to Alabama. Another nightmare scenario for the Vols.

VOLS fans are tired of playing second (third? Fourth?) fiddle. I remember when we were feared like Bama is now..

There is no reason why they shouldn't swing big. They have the money and resources.

I've been following since before thread 33. And been a member for a decade. I'm not ranting and raving. I respond with my opinion and I'm attacked because, I'm not sold on the fact, Gruden is a done deal. I've been here long enough to realize how things work around here. But it's different once your the one getting attacked. Our fan base constantly fight amongst each other, yet we want the title of being the greatest fan base. I'm not here to **** in anyone's face. Not intentionally. I'm here for humor and to discuss. At first, I thought maybe these guys were being sarcastic. And some are, but interestingly enough, some really believe every little thing. Most of these folks have seen me around to know I mean no harm. I will always speak my mind. That's how I was raised, but I also know humility. I guess others don't, or just have a hard time accepting anything, other than what they want. Much like a child throwing a temper tantrum

Totally random thought, but does anyone else have an image in mind of what each person looks like? Kind of like radio personalities... it’d be weird to see them in person. Anyway, carry on.

Stop babbling about this, UT was never going to pursue him and Kelly was never going to have interest in the job here.
