I popped to 20% a few weeks ago but have stayed at less than 1% for a while. I believe everything about him reaching out to former coaches and that we are in this thing. Just too many national writers saying it is a pipe dream for me to climb on board.

And I have my doubts about how good the UT is perceived to be at the moment. Not because I personally don’t think it’s good (far from it!). More that I’ve listened to a bunch of people in the last few years say it isn’t good and mainly point to the Bama series.

This hire will be telling.

The Bama series isn't going anywhere. It's a cold reality of the job description here. So Currie needs to keep that in mind and go hire a coach that can go toe to toe. Bottom line.

We are the most profitable program in the conference. No excuses. Get it done.

Drae Bowles’ actions should be viewed in context to the extent that it would appear his chick was hooking up with AJ and lying to him about it.
Bowles did what he thought was right (reporting what he thought was a rape) and butch called him a traitor for it. Turned the team against him. A truly heinous act on butch’s part.

Because like everything else, it wasn’t real. People knew it. When he’s not there, he doesn’t get respect. Personalities like that prey on weak and impressionable minds, not everyone as a whole. They do things to make them feel in control, and honestly don’t have the wherewithal to realize they’re not.

Bingo.

Marlin conveniently leaving out the part about being accused of sexual assault. I mean I get Butch wasn't a saint but it will take stories from guys with more clout than People butthurt they weren't good enough for NFL or got in Troubke and don't want to admit

Yep.

Did not meet performance expectations here. Slow... he’s not a pro player, because he didn’t show it on the field.

He’s been gone how long? And now wants to dip his hands in the mud.

I don't doubt that someone on the team called him a traitor. I DO doubt it was Jones.

There is a contradiction in the Butch is a tyrant narrative that befuddles me...If Butch was a such a harda$$, then why the going soft on S&C? That makes no sense to me. Usually those types of coaches work the players to death.

And why do they play so hard for him? And how was he able to have this recruiting class lined up?

I said a couple of weeks ago when this mess started, if these stories are true, shame on him. But also shame on these people for waiting til now to speak out. I don't buy the argument that they had something to lose while he was still coach. Hogwash! They were already done and had nothing to lose.

It's pretty weak on their part to wait til now to speak out. Could've saved the program more trouble and perhaps kept other players from having to go through the same thing.

It just seems odd that he would be contacting so many former Vols about a staff. With no offense, I’m sure he would want the best staff possible, and I’m to believe it’s conveniently made up of all former Vols?

Randy Sanders?

guys like Finebum and Mcelboy are going to downplay any good coach coming here because they are Bama homers. Someone said earlier, these media guys are ex-players and are loving our 10yr ride in the ditch and don't want to see us get out of it. If it has been confirmed that Gruden is contacting former players, it is not to set up a poker game...
The fact that Currie is contacting recruits is telling as well. If you don't have someone on deck or super confident you are getting a A+ coach, the negative fallout with recruits moving forward would be huge and bad press... At this point he cannot take a risk that big unless he is super confident.
I don't know who the next coach will be, but I am becoming more confident as I see these scenarios play out that Currie has a game changer.

from EricC1717 in the Gruden thread...

Say what you want. Just passing along info from someone I have been talking to.

Call me a troll, accuse me of faking the screenshot. I don't care. Here is what I have been told and I believe it

Drae probably doesn't care what anybody believes now, but it is in the linked article. Jones called him back later and apologized.

Randy is a very good asst coach and veteran. Interesting part about this name coming out for me is that FSU sources said a week or 2 ago that Randy sanders would not be returning next yr. they didn't say why or mention where he would be going.....👀

I’m convinced our job in isolation is as attractive as it has been since Fulmer was fired. Facilities are great. Nashville provides a recruiting base. We are making piles of money. New well regarded AD.

And what encourages me is that is sounds like we are confronting that series head on by throwing big money after Gruden.

But if Gruden doesn’t take it and we can’t make an equivalent hire with the kind of money we are throwing around, Currie has to ask a lot of extremely hard questions about why. Why is our job perceived so poorly with all these advantages and what are the best ways to fix it? He will lose the fanbase if he doesn’t.

I think he wants buy in deeper than you can get from mercenaries. Also should provide him a lot more collateral with fans on early seasons.

All the same things they’re saying about us, the talking heads said about Alabama around 2006...
