Tennessee coach Johnny Majors described Dale Jones as "one of the greatest leaders I ever had."[24] He stated that Jones "personifies what college football is all about to the highest degree,"[25] and noted, "I have never seen a young man in my life that it meant more to play for one particular school than it does for Dale Jones to play at Tennessee."[2]

Jones remains one of the best-known former Tennessee defenders, achieving what Knoxville News Sentinel reporter Mike Strange describes as "folk-hero status" among Vol fans.[26] In a 2005 article, reporter John Painter wrote, "Mention Dale Jones is making an appearance in Knoxville and chances are it would resemble 'Jimmy Buffett Night' in Key West. Gonna draw a crowd."[27]

If the NCAA confirmed that you were in negotiations to become the coach at the time of the call to the recruit, I am guessing they'd have a sanction or two for the University.

Wait..........so it would be against the rules because Gruden is in a contract negotiation with the University? I don't think you are reading the rule correctly.

Actually if you have ever bought a ticket or a drink in Neyland Stadium or anything that results in money changing hands in order for you to attend a football function then you are by definition a booster and would fall under that distinction with regards to contacting a recruit.

Rumor I heard was some big time boosters supposedly met at Blackberry Farms close to Townsend,Tn. Not sure whether Peyton or Jon were present. Supposedly the paperwork was done at that time.

No.....if you make a donation for season tickets you are, but not if you simply purchase tickets. Its in black and white.

I think that's the part that would intrigue him the most. Especially with the crop potentially coming out this year. He would have a MAJOR say in who they take, and Eli is a perfect gap QB to allow a rookie to develop under Gruden's tutelage. Fix the OL, bring in a solid RB, and he could fix the Giants almost instantly. There is talent on the defense, and OBJ, Sterling Shepherd, and Evan Engram are a solid receiving trio. This year is an aberration for the G-Men due to injuries and poor coaching. Gruden fixes half of that by simply walking in the door.

That said, I hope he's roaming the sideline in Knoxville and not New York or Tampa.
