For me, some approximation of "in order" of the names I've seen mentioned on here or in articles, regardless of how realistic they are:

Chris Petersen
Gary Patterson
Chip Kelly
James Franklin
Jimbo Fisher
Mike Tomlin
Bill O'Brien (I was the one who mentioned him, based on no information, just purely wishing.)
John Harbaugh
Doug Marrone
Scott Frost
Willie Taggart
Matt Campbell
John Gruden - No idea if he can still coach but I'd tune in for the spectacle.
Justin Fuentes
Jim Bob Cooter
Dan Mullen
Kyle Whittengham
Mike Gundy
Bobby Petrino
Les Miles

For the sake of brevity, I'll keep it to the names that actually move the needle for me.

Who is bending over backwards? I heard some generalized pleasantries from Currie and Hoke about Jones. That's about it.

There's also the possibility that Jones is actually a good man and we're hearing from butthurt people with axes to grind about how awful he is/was.

Well, Currie and Hoke are the only two university employees we've heard from publicly, so that's a pretty good sample size.

And both of them did it multiple times in their public comments. I can understand a simple, one-time, "We appreciate everything Coach Jones did for Tennessee and wish him the best." But both of them went much further than that in their comments.

I don't understand the needs for comments like, "I know Coach Jones will be successful", "I trust Butch Jones and his character", "I have tremendous respect for Coach Jones", "We lost a good man", etc...

Are you thinking they're putting kid gloves on with Butch to protect themselves/the program from information he holds?

I’ve been clear I think Currie was 0-1 and let things go too far with butch. I still think so.

He’s was 1-2 when he pulled the plug this weekend.

I think he’s 2-3 now with these stories of recruits coming back or holding on. I find it interesting he said “don’t believe it if it’s not from me” and now he’s dropping nuggets to everybody by allowing his quotes to these recruits get out and published.

He’s making no public comments, just like he said, but also making it clear there’s reason to be excited.

Ok, when Gruden comes in here and flips Lawrence from Clemson, which QB would you cut? I love Martinez for his mobility, but that shoulder injury gives me pause. We haven’t had much luck with guys coming off of injuries. Penix is lower rated and not near as mobile, but he is playing really well this year in Florida. Your opinion?

If we accept the notion that Gruden is the top/a realistic candidate right now, then we also likely need to accept that he was the top/a realistic candidate a month or more ago when it was first leaked.

Just don't see him mulling an absolute monster of an offer over for a month. Also would hope he wouldn't string the fanbase along for that amount of time a second time around.

To me it suggests he has already accepted and either the news is behind or Currie/the AD is floating as many possibilities out there as possible in order to announce Gruden on his own terms and when the time is right.

This Offer is fairly recent. If you believe the insiders there have been a couple other offers and he has rejected them because they didn’t meet his requirements and this last offer had everything he needed and wanted. Now he is mulling it over. TIFWIW.

Bring them all in, if they're willing, and let it sort itself out.

Keep all three. With the high possibility of Dormady transfering you need 3 QBs this class

well, you might want to call your mama to come change you then, son.

You think you have to use the contraction You're instead of you are shows me everything I need to know girl. That's a formality.
I can hear you mouth breathing from here.

I don't think Gruden necessarily needs some huge head start on the recruiting process. He's Jon Gruden. His hire will send shockwaves through the CFB world. That's why I think the announcement could be delayed as long as the Monday after the Vandy game or even the SECCG weekend. Especially if current recruits know that something huge is about to happen.

It would almost be like a Black Friday-esque sale on committing to Tennessee. Limited time offer, supplies are scarce, and you better make a move now if you want to get in on it.

Gruden gets announced and recruits have 2-3 weeks to decide if they want to play for him and the Vols. He makes a few phone calls to elite players and could take advantage of the insane hype he and his presumably NFL-caliber staff would generate.

Very little time for him to get turned down or even for other coaches to negative recruit, but enough time for him to seal the deal on a monster class.

Tony asked Brice if Gruden has contacted Dale Jones or Tee Martin.

Brice responded that he can confirm that Gruden has in fact contacted one of them.

Gruden will recruit at an elite level for 2-3 years just on his name and reputation. If he coaches even remotely near that level, the classes will be top 5 and a bad year will be a top 10 class.
