Is Tn football dead? I mean, is there any coming back from this? Its been years since weve been relevant. Are we done? Serious question.
Nah Bass I believe it comes down to who we get as HC and his ability to get the team to bite into what he's selling. Which I guess if Butch can do it that and he did at the beginning, I am banking the next to be able to. Huge hire coming up imo.
Butch was ultimately more successful than Dooley and did a good job of turning us back towards at least minimal success instead of embarrasment.
But he hit his ceiling and cant compete at an SEC level. He is a good salesman but cant develop a program beyond the first 3 years
Thing is we could hire Satterfield and 90% would end up buying in and buying season tickets just like before. Our fans are too good for this **** administration.
The problem is that, in this day and age, a new coach is like a guy with a running start pushing a giant stone up a hill. You really have to get over the hump in those first couple/few years, or else that stone starts rolling back down and steamrolls you. Butch was more successful than Dooley, and he was actually pretty close to cresting that hill, but bad breaks in those close 2015 games and then the injuries and dysfunction last year... and now its just over. He missed his window to make the leap.
They are very comparable. Patterson does have the conference championships, but they were easier pathways through easier conferences. Mullen's track record with QB's gives him the edge IMO.
If we hire a big time coach who can salvage the class I guess its possible we could be playing at an elite level in 2019.
Im just straight outta optimism at this point. Its gone
