2017 Vols will have the #1 or #2 ranked DEFENSE in the SEC

Nope. The defense has held up as much as they could given our putrid offense.

Put last year's offense with this year's defense and they win 10 games easy.

Haha. You got no shame kid.

Just we’re clear, you may not feel dumb at this point.....99.9% of VN sees you exactly so however.

Also, weren’t you awfully high on the offense as well coming into the season? Must’ve been since you had us going 11-1, winning the SECCG with a victory over Auburn (not Bama) and making the playoff final 4.

Some want to just blame the offense for everything. Last year our offense was very good and our defense was still garbage. Facts are facts. Our defense sucks.

Yep

Sure the O is bad right now but in almost every aspect so is the D. In the KY game TN had the ball for 38 minutes KY had it for 21 yet they still ran the ball like they were 97 Nebraska.

It’s an average defense at best, imo.

Would it be better if the offense helped? sure.

But if they were as good as what the OP claimed they would be, that kind of help would not be needed.

And it’s not like they have faced lots of elite offenses.

You can still have a top defense without offense. I agree it doesn't help but you have to look at scheduling and other information. You can easily have a top offense with the worst defense.

If you are going to suggest anything analytical you have to look at every angle. Please do more homework. I would hate to believe you could ever make claims about baseball. I don't think you'd have a clue.

You need to man up when you are totally wrong bro.

Exactly, and while I've posted this before (likely in this very thread) it's obviously worth bringing up again.

In 2008 TN was #116 in total offense. Obviously an offense that inept would cripple a defense, right? That year TN was #3 in the nation in total defense. (nation, not conference)

I will say that the defense hasn't played up to my expectations even with a competent offense. But they're not as bad as their ratings. They held up well in the first half against the 2 best teams in the country (Georgia and Alabama). We stuffed their run game early but because of we had no offense we got wore out and run on.

Last year's offense + this year's defense = 10-2 record AT WORST

So, when you say that UT "stuffed their run game early", does 113 yards by the RBs in the FIRST HALF alone constitute "stuffing." UGA RBs had 113 yards on 19 carries in the first half.

I don't know why you guys even entertain D4H.

The only #1 defense in the SEC is D4H defending why we're #124 in rush defense. "Injuries!" "Offense!" "Butch!" "Field conditions!"

Wait for it.

The more I look at the talent we have on that side of the ball, the more I like it. On offense I still have concerns about the offensive line and at wide receiver. However, on defense I have zero concerns when it comes to talent or depth. Last year was a fluke for Bob Shoop. Injuries played a large factor and guys like Willie Martinez were trying to undercut his authority. This year I expect to see him look like the elite defensive coordinator he looked like at Penn State and Vanderbilt. Expect the defensive line to be among the best in the nation. Jonathan Kongbo and Darrell Taylor are NFL caliber athletes. Kendal Vickers is a starting caliber NFL DT and Kahlil McKenzie is as talented a one technique as there is. Look out for Justin Martin and Emmanuel Moseley to have huge seasons as well this year. I think both will be All-SEC caliber CBs and NFL draft picks. Also look out for Nigel Warrior and Daniel Bituli to turn into superstars. They might be the two most physically gifted athletes on our defense. I think both will have breakout seasons as sophomores. And finally, expect to see Darrin Kirkland Jr. take on the mantle as the undisputed leader of the defense. He's got a good chance at being a First Team All-American. Overall, the defense will be top 10 nationally and rank first or second (to Alabama) in the SEC.

Just look at the talent and experience we have across the board:

SDE - Jonathan Kongbo (R-Jr.) / Kyle Phillips (Jr.) / Matthew Butler (Fr.)
DT - Kendal Vickers (R-Sr.) / Shy Tuttle (Jr.) / Quay Picou (Jr.)
DT - Kahlil McKenzie (Jr.) / Alexis Johnson (R-Jr.)
WDE - Darrell Taylor (R-So.) / Deandre Johnson (Fr.)

WLB - Darrin Kirkland Jr. (Jr.) / Quart'e Sapp (R-So.) / Cortez McDowell (Sr.)
MLB - Daniel Bituli (So.) / Colton Jumper (Sr.)
SLB - Austin Smith (R-So.) / Dillon Bates (R-Jr.)

CB - Justin Martin (Sr.) / Baylen Buchanan (So.)
CB - Emmanuel Moseley (Sr.) / Cheyenne Labruzza (Fr.)
NB- Rashaan Gaulden (R-Jr.) / Marquill Osborne (So.)
FS - Micah Abernathy (Jr.) / Evan Berry (Sr.)
SS - Nigel Warrior (So.) / Todd Kelly Jr. (Sr.)

The media will look really stupid in December when we are in Atlanta in large part because of a defense that they felt did not have a single player worthy of being voted onto any of the preseason All-SEC defensive teams.

Could you have been any more wrong?
