Ohio State might be the best team in the country when they want to be. Really don't understand how they got beat by Iowa the way they did last week.

Dude, why are you so anti-Gruden? It's as if you work in the AD....oohh...

I’m not anti Gruden. He was a good NFL coach 10 years ago. I think his actual coaching ability has grown into that of legend status because he has became so likeable on TV. But in regards to TN i just don’t look at him as the savior of TN football. i just don’t think he coaches in college period. So i would rather our donors and other people far more important than I, focus their efforts on one of the ~10 coaches I think we can get that would be very successful here.

Any chance the recruiting class falling apart is why they'd take action now?

Anyone who didn’t see the recruiting class falling apart had their head in the sand. Surely the AD anticipated that would happen and were willing to accept it. Just hope the gamble is worth it. Be our third straight middle of the road recruiting class, which makes me feel like we are going backwards.

Just makes what Saban is doing/has done at Bama that much more impressive.

Meyer has all the talent in the world and is roughly Saban's equal as a coach, but he's human. Loses to vastly inferior teams. Saban drops games, sure, but his team pretty much always shows up and it requires a Heisman QB and/or a lot of turnovers for him to actually lose.

Swan Man on VQ and OldVol on here both giving the thumbs up on Gruden to the Hill.

Apparently Swan Man broke the Kiffin news back in the day.

Correct. But he's also saying he was told it was going to happen after UK loss but it didn't so Currie is unpredictable.

I do love the way Currie keeps everyone guessing, even Hubbs. That’s why I feel confident in his abilities to bring us a damn good football coach, or better yet, Gruden.

If we don't make a great hire that can pull a really good-great class together, whatever instant lame duck is going to a start off with a half loaded gun. Coach ______ better be able to pick up some spare ammo this go round.

Then he is not Sabans equal

I can understand this type of thinking but I think the donors or Currie are smart enough to know more than us what Grudens feelings are about coaching college and UT. If Currie is still trying, it’s because he has good enough reason to beleive Gruden is interested. Could they be getting played? Sure, but I’ll trust their decision on that aspect since they actually have the info while we have nothing.

In their one an only meetup

October 16, 2005 Jon Gruden's Tampa Bay Bucs 27 Nick Saban's Miami Dolphins 13

Tampa lost Brian Griese in that game, knee injury, out for the season. The Bucs finished the regular season at 11-5 while Miami finished at 9-7.

I was inquiring about Mullen. I do like that Gruden has a winning record against the poisoned dwarf .:)

That's my guess as well.

Here is the University of Tennessee historical record (per Wiki) 829-375-53 for a winning percentage of .681.

Averaging 9 wins in a 12 game year would put our winning percentage at. 750. Even those who are considered anti-Mullen concede this would likely be his floor.

Tennessee is top 10 in wins all-time and we would be beating that pace.

Hire Mullen.

We want our best years moving forward, not our best years mixed with our worst. People who bring up a 100 year average are misguided. There are ups and downs, but why would we suffer through the bad times only to be rewarded with mediocrity?

Peaks and valleys are acceptable and expected, just don't tell me that my peak isn't much of a peak, but more like a foothill.

Never been a big believer in swan. He’s stood the test of time though I guess.

Yeah. It just seems strange to me that almost every insider is "IN" on Gruden right now. Are they all that concerned about temporary e-cred and likes? Are they all just hopping on the bandwagon and not wanting to get left out of the fun and kudos that come with posting cryptic messages and emojis?

Even Larry is giving some credence to the idea that it could happen, albeit in his typical extremely reserved/pessimistic manner.

Yea i agree. If we pull Gruden then i will be just as happy as everyone here. My whole
Approach has been far from Gruden or bust. There’s so many coaches that would do well here. Butch is terrible and had us in position for a Bcs bowl last year.

I meant that he's the closest to it in CFB. The only other guy with NCs at two different stops.

Saban doesn't have an equal.

I agree. Recruiting not coaching is what makes Saban unequaled though imo. If he didn't have the talent he does he would be just another really good coach. He is not some innovative genius. He just blunt force traumas you to death.

Yep. He's also unique in that he seems to get the absolute best out of his players.

I think a lot of that is due to there being such a huge log jam of talent at every position. Guys can't afford to slack off at Bama, even uber talented 5*s. He will just process them to make room for new 5*s if they don't pan out immediately.
