Official Jon Gruden Thread 31

When I worked at State Department, many years ago, we used to have a certain number of exclusive resorts around Washington, DC, and New York City that we would use for sensitive meetings where discretion was key. Places out in the countryside of Maryland and Connecticut, like that.

Never heard of Blackberry Farm before today, but it seems to be a resort of that nature. Makes perfect sense for a meeting of key boosters and university leadership to be held there if the desire is to keep things close-hold.

That it does. They have movie/country stars staying there constantly, but we never hear about them because it is so private. It would be an ideal environment for Gruden to have private discussions.

Please don’t do this to me again! I swore I wouldn’t get sucked in this time around, like in ‘12. I’m begging you to have mercy on me. I lost sleep, weight, and a life on this board the last time.

Just get prepared to celebrate.

Gruden to the Hill!

GO BIG ORANGE!

Oh, if you mean the Blackberry Farm meeting was not supposed to be public knowledge? You're assuredly right. Seems that it was leaked, and that leak has since been (very indirectly) quasi-validated.

Yes that's what I meant

I'm assuming that last word means dead in a ditch?

When I was a kid, my brother (The non-believer), wanted the GI Joe aircraft carrier for Christmas the way he wanted oxygen. There was a wrapped box under the tree that looked like it could be it. One afternoon he gently unwrapped one end to see, and it was the aircraft carrier. He was extatic! Until my mom caught him. She took it back.

I don't think that will happen to us, but I'm still gun shy from that Christmas 30 years ago.

I've lost 6 pounds in the last month that I really couldn't afford to lose.

Of course he is the first to backpedal.

Nah, TB admitted all along he couldn't really let himself go there, but he would love it if it happened. I don't think he's ever just dismissed it out of hand like a lot of the others, that I heard anyway. But I'm not dialed into him 24/7 either.

Wow...your mom...

I also coveted the USS Flagg. Now I know why your brother has no capacity to believe that dreams come true.

I live in the East Tennessee area. Blackberry Farms is very well known to people in this area. It's in Blount County just outside the Smoky Mountains. In fact, some people have disputed that private hiking trails that have been made for guests are actually in the park. I know they are extremely close. It is a fairly expensive resort to stay at, but not super high end exclusive. I think one could stay there for around $700/night, but I'm just guessing from what I remember in the past. Definitely outside my price range (lol). Lot's of folks stay there from all parts of the country throughout the year.

Yep, that's how the resorts we used up in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, upstate New York and Connecticut were, too. Open to the public, well known resorts. Expensive, but not hidden at all.

But if we needed them, we just dropped enough cash on them not only to pay for the whole place but to offset the inconvenience caused to already-booked guests and to ensure discretion for the meeting.

Not saying the boosters had to completely buy out Blackberry Farm for the week, only that there are certainly ways for them to meet there for discretion's sake. And it makes perfect sense as a site to do so, given its location and clientele.

Well, I just killed two hours trying to find old posts of mine. Why is this so hard to do on VN? Why does Google only seem to go back to Gruden VI and not earlier? I'm sure there's a way to do it, but I haven't found it yet.

Anyway, the best I've come up with are some of my posts on Gruden VI. But as just-a-fan who knows nothing about coaching and all, I was just doing some general cheerleading.

So as Smokin' Bob so aptly said, I'm a Grudenite by virtue of longevity. But I sure wasn't taking bullets for it. Hats off:hi:to the true OG's.

I tried to find mine as well, but I'm definitely not caring. We've been here and are all in now. OGs, grudenites, lurkers, and vol fans will all be celebrating soon!

Its a luxery hotel/complex in Asheville. Allegedly there was a huge meeting with all the big money guys and decision makers about coaching changes. Gruden was rumored to have gone to this meeting.
This may have already been posted... BlackBerry Farms is a resort in Walland, TN - the owner died in a skiing accident last year - but it goes on... is known for its priciness accommodations and food. The Grove Park Inn is a resort in Asheville where the Grumors were associated with.
