Not sure this has been posted yet, but if you share the view I do that Thamel has a good relationship with Currie, this feels like a Mullen puff piece (which he deserves). Interesting too with the reports from Trey Wallace that we have Mullen in our backpocket and Hubbs saying Currie will work a deal with one coach while he allows everyone else to focus on another.
Dan Mullen turned MSU from punchline to prominence; will he stay?
Two years before you can see that he is not the answer... the first season and recruiting class will be a push, but by the end of the second year when we do not see the results starting to take shape and our recruiting class is behind the usual suspects again, folks will see he is more of the same...just a little better with X's and O's
Perfect setup for Sexton to get Mullen a nice raise at MSU. Unless they just go all-in for the money, it's hard to see Megan Mullen being eager to trade Starkville for Knoxville. The last three coaches' wives have been public about the stress on their family--specifically how hard it was on their kids-- and that seems like it could be a deterrent for the Mullens.
IMO, the key things are-- how ambitious is Dan Mullen, really? And where does UT think he is on the risk-reward spectrum? If it's going to take $6M or more-- plus buyout-- to lure Mullen to UT, is he worth the premium? Or do other coaches have the same, or more, upside for less?
Cade Mays is the most important part of the class by a mile and for several reasons... mainly our O line needs another Trey.
I know these are just kids, but I have to agree with Jacket on this one, if we get a good upgrade of a coach and Cade still goes to GA, have fun in ATL, you know what you are signing up for. Don't think you will be very welcomed in Knoxville moving forward. You will have no problem getting to the NFL at UT, so don't use that as an excuse.
For the record, I still think it's going to be Dan Mullen.
Also, follow Pete Thamel articles. He is very close with Currie. I think the AD narrative will be projected through Thamel.

Wow! It is hard to believe that we cant get the best players who grew up Tennessee fans to come to Tennessee. Really let you in on the sad state of affairs with our program. 2017 and 2018 in-state classes were the ones we were pointing to that would really bring us back to the elite in the country, and instead they are all going to other programs. Please hire Gruden ASAP!

I know Sexton tries to get his guys raises whenever possible, but I do believe Mullen was a little peeved to not get more attention for the Florida and Georgia jobs when they came open. I'm not saying he's dying to get out of there but he's certainly open to the idea.
It would not surprise me at all if Currie is working with Sexton behind the scenes to get Mullen while also allowing Sexton time to find Butch another job.
One thing that scares me a little about Mullen is there is a little smoke around him and possible NCAA issues.
