Yep - UT has had an incredible run of bad luck (exacerbated by poor leadership decisions, but still, injuries to KEY players, the clock rule that was instituted AFTER our loss in the Music City Bowl, etc.)

You may be 100% correct. If one has to take money out of an investment, then you have to pay taxes on that money.

If the money is sent directly to UT as donation then he can avoid the taxes. This may be a way of avoiding taxes.

When the dollars are followed by a lot of zeros the Government gets money. Flame away.

Actually he just laid out the reasons a move to Nike was unlikely/unwise based on the money and attention. Turns out the things he said were correct

I remember him being a tad bit more abrasive than that.

Maybe because I have always been pro-Nike.

As for me.... I don't want Gruden so I can say "I told you so" to anyone.... I want to stay humble and be quiet and say welcome to ALL Vols.... but I want Gruden so we can finish off Saban's career in the fashion in which it deserves ... by beating him like a red headed step child...... No matter what you think of Johnny Majors... he finally beat the Bear in Bryants last year of coaching.... I just don't us to take that long this time....

Wealthy people donate appreciated stock to avoid taxes. Or they donate in kind....like use of an airplane for a key employee.

I don't usually post hearsay stuff, but this comes from a trusted family member.... so TIFWIW:

Had a business dinner last night and one gentleman is tied to university pretty close. IE past coaches, players, etc. We discussed Gruden and he told me that several of his contacts have said the same things I told him regarding the deal was done last week. Keep hoping for the best...

Seems like they may have bigger financial issues depending on what takes place with the Federal trial against Pilot/Flying J down in Chattanooga. I'd say the fines could get really steep depending on how that goes.

But if true and that their cash flow is going to suffer why in the hell would they worry about a head coaching job and spending money they may need down the road on that?
Either the info is flawed or they are just really stupid for doing that. If I knew money could get tight I would not get into a dick measuring contest with other guys.
