Official Jon Gruden Thread 30

Being all in on the Gruden hire myself, I would not call it a "Fantasy land" ... There is a lot of smoke (more than 2012) that seems to indicate it has legs....

In answer to your questions lets start with 2. I don't believe the endorsements are a huge issue as they can be dealt with, with money.... Some have indicated that Gruden would be paid in ways that did not include money .... that is interesting and should not be overlooked
now the 1. I have always contended that Gruden IS the wildcard in this.... Most in here refuse to hear this but there are two scenarios about what the break down was last time.

a) UT refused to give up the control Gruden demanded and Hart balked at hiring him

b) UT meet all his demands and he himself walked away, I have one person I trust that still contends this was the case and was in this thread in 2012 and posts here seldom now.... but he told me that for this reason Gruden WILL NOT be the next coach at UT

So I guess it is up to which side you want to believe... I do believe If Gruden wants the job, UT will do what it takes to meet his demands... the BIG question for me has always been ... Does he want the job
1. some say he once called it his dream job and hold tight to that interview... but these are the same that immediately discount the interview where he said he would get a college in trouble if he coached in college

2. I am hoping that he wants to get back in coaching bad enough, and the UT jobs fits his timeline, his wife wants to come home and his ESPN job going away just makes the pieces fit together

TIME WILL TELL

As far as the quote about getting into trouble, it was in reponse to the question what would be the biggest drawback of your coaching in college? And his answer was pretty much in jest, like well I guess I might get someone put on probation. He didn't answer it with seriousness, he was just giving them a answer. You could tell it was said in jest more than anything. But people can read into it what they want to.:lolabove::rock:SOON JUST SOON! GRUDEN ON THE HILL!!!!!!!

Why is LWS trusted?

Going way back Larry was an great insider. Always straight to the point with very little BS, rarely injecting opinion and never arguing or getting caught up in the "look at me, I know someone, I'm important" aspect. He's always taking coaching changes in stride and handled himself well. there was actually once a parody UT site that played on his initials, called "Loser With Socks", anyone remember that?.

It's been rehashed of course on here and some have touched on it. But on gridscape you had ron (vol12), chuck, the owner, bob a guy who has now passed I believe, and Roy Adams the infamous Tennstud, all knew stuff in varying degrees and some claimed to always know more and truly relished their role, and injected some opinion along the way.

LWS was always, in my opinion, the best insider, and a free agent, bringing his stuff from TOS to TOS, usually willing to answer questions and willing to tell you he didnt know, if he didnt.

Other guys would say, "I could tell you that but Phil asked me not to", when they didnt know, whereas Larry always had a way about him, that if he said it you could take it to the bank.

I was a paying member of govolsxtra (remember that?) when it debuted around '99. Been wasting time on the Internet looking for vols info, since the internet was a thing.

Not see a 1000% sales jump in the city of Knox it if happens seems legit

Most people on here had no idea who Ergen was before this coaching search.

I have doubts that a person worth $15-20 Billion is concerned over E-cred. He seems to be the quite billionaire...not Richard Branson.

It's only positive if the speculation is true. If the speculation turns out to be false I'm sure many will boycott Dish...as juvenile as that is.

Not really because if they believed the Ergen rumors then they would know that Ergen did everything that he could to get Gruden.

Mostly speculation based upon unsubstantiated claims. I have speculated all a long that if he returns to coaching it's in the NFL and at Tampa Bay.
To what do you credit this as only speculation.... when others (in the media) have speculated about Gruden they have said there was 0 chance (Hyams) was Hyams reporting or speculation?

this is what I was referring to as most pick a side and then immediately close their mind

Still have no clue other than a dish guy

My friend in the AD and I are leaving later this afternoon for Mizzou - his daughter goes to a school in Missouri (not UM)....I am sure he will fill me in on some more (Currie fed) info on that long car trip.

Currie fed?

As in, you think your friend is bringing info from Currie?

Just trying to be clear about what you are saying. :)

Anyone on here listen to the A-Z sports guys online ??

Austin ranked top 5 people that will come to Tennessee
5. Brohm
4. Kelly
3. Frost
2. Mullen
1. GRUDEN SOON!!

I'm not sure that Gruden or Kelly want to coach at UT but I believe all of them will entertain offers.

Just got a text that the Dish Network tech coming over to my house is called Charlie.
Texted him back and asked him when he would be getting over to my place. He said around 10:30.
Then followed up with:
“So, Soon”

Soooooon

Would they? Peoples' memories get a bit fuzzy when they're outraged.

How long until the narrative of, "Well, the UT AD and big boosters screwed it up again and wound up hiring a Google coach!"

Just last week, the story was Gruden had bought Haslam's house on Lyons View but oddly enough Haslam was the one blocking Gruden to UT. Make a lot of sense, doesn't it?
