Mullen is a boring hire. Not a bad hire. Not a great hire. A good hire. But a very boring one. Taggart, Patterson, Kiffin, Brohm, Gundy, Campbell, all more exciting than Mullen.

Yeah, I’d be like, “Oh cool. Recruiting is probably going to be about the same and we’ll win around 9 games for a while.”

But Mullen has put double the nfl players in the league than butch/Dooley did. So how would recruiting be about the same?

I honestly don’t see why it’s obvious. It’s all assumptions on Gruden in the college level. Who knows how well he game plans for spread offenses, can teach his offense to mostly non nfl caliber players, wants to recruit etc.

If a man can coach well enough to win a super bowl, I think he can handle coaching in college. Why do people act like the college games is too complex for him? And recruiting will be easy for him. Not like he would be on the road 7 days a week grinding. Plus he has a great work ethic.

Which has nothing to do with head coaching credentials. Randy Sanders has a couple of rings too.

I'm not anti-Mullen

Its a fair point you are making but coaching in college doesn't always (usually?) transfer to the NFL amd vice versa. Coaching grown men is different than coaching college kids. Mullen has coached the hell out of some college kids, Gruden has not.

That’s development not recruiting

I’d add... “cool, we’ll be able to develop our players better too, so maybe they will perform to their rating”
