Official Jon Gruden Thread 30

Coasty, I meant to tell you several threads ago, I too believe in the possibility of Bigfoot. Too many sightings by too many people who come from reputable occupations. Not sure if you were serious, but it’s fun to speculate.

If Bigfoot was real, it’s mathmatically impossible for someone to not a have found some sort of REAL irrefutable evidence at least hinting at his existence (hair, scar, carcass, a picture, etc). I went down the rabbit hole, myself. Came back with nothing.

Wrong thread but hey, mythical creatures could actually probably fit quite nicely in the Gruden thread.

Bitcoin: Message signing and verification
u/arnorthFeb 18, 2013, 5:00 AM
This is for the newbies.

A cool function of Bitcoin not mentioned in introductions is its message signing and verification feature. I'll use the Satoshi client on a Mac as the example but the same functions are available in the wallet at blockchain.info and in any decent Bitcoin client.

Suppose you have a dispute with a vendor you paid in bitcoin. They say you didn't pay them the correct amount or they didn't get paid at all. So you show them the record of the transaction.

Great, says the vendor, but how do I know that's your coin?

In the Satoshi client, go to the "Receive Coins" tab. At the bottom, you'll see an option that says, "Sign Message" (you can also go to File > Sign Message). Enter the Bitcoin address that you own that initiated the transaction (that's the address to the left of the green arrow in the transaction record mentioned earlier) into the address form. Write your message and then hit the "Sign Message" button.

The signature generated is unique to the address and to the message. Send your address, the message and the signature to the vendor. They'll take your info and enter it into the "Verify Message" function of Bitcoin, usually located somewhere near the "Sign Message" button.

This could have other uses found with some creativity. ; )

Edit: another use for this feature.

You know me as arnorth here at reddit. Someone at someothersite.com says they're me and you want proof. With this feature, it's a kind of poor man's ID system for anons.

If you know that I have access to the address in the above example and you give me a message to sign with that address, you can verify that it's me at someothersite.com

So Buba is posting on another site and he posts the verification here so whomever he is talking to can verify he is who he says he is elsewhere.....

Can someone please figure out what Bubas post means? I know it is a way of authentication and verification, but why post it now???

SFD, are you on this??

This is an important clue, but I have no clue what to do with it. It looks like a bet maybe.

Gruden thinking to himself, "I'm gonna be up late and I need some entertainment. Hmmm..."
Dials phone..."This is Jon, park all the MNF trucks in Knoxville tonight. K, thanks!"
Hangs up phone smiling... "I'm gonna read VolNation XXX tonight!"

I had no idea where in Knoxville the trucks were/are. I didn't realize they were on the west side. That doesn't make sense, but neither does sending 4 MNF trucks for ESPN to do a segment on someone that was leaving them. I want him as much as anyone, but the trucks don't really sway my meter.

It is close to the so called house Gruden is rumored to have purchased

Just when I thought we couldn't get any more da Vinci code-esque in here, Bubba drops that gibberish.

I imagine that Bubba may have been proving to someone that he was the owner of this account on VN. I didn't see anyone here requesting that he "provide proof" for anything lately.

He could however have been in a conversation (maybe elsewhere, maybe real life) that went something like "Hi, I'm Bubba on VN"...Oh yeah, prove it, post on there with the other half of this key as "Bubba".

I don't play with Bitcoin, but it looks similar to a PGP signed message. Public / Private key pairings to authenticate that the message did indeed come from said person.

I need a Slushie immediately so someone else can play with this theory if they want. Try to figure it out before I return!
