Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLII

People keep talking about Mullen hiring a good staff, but aren't his guys developing beyond potential right now?

There are some good coaches on his staff right now. Get a couple cruiters and go.

But none of this matters cause Gruden.

That's true. He probably has a pretty good staff right now. It's just hard to keep the best coaches there. He's lost 3 DC's to better jobs.

Dan would need to bring his best coaches and replace the ones that he felt he needed to upgrade.

Can someone give me a rundown of some coaches that have worked for DM? Didn't he lose two defense coordinators?

This talk about his recruiting is crazy to me. He will recruit really well here especially if he hires a good staff which is nearly impossible at Miss State. Dan Mullen has been in this league for over a decade and knows what it takes.

CBJ recruited well here but we never got to see him reach his peak as a recruiter because he **** the bed on the field and never got to 10 wins like he should have.

He lost Geoff Collins to FL and he's now the head coach at temple and Manny Diaz whos now at Miami but I think he had 1 stop inbetween

Serious? Dang, I've been looking for that one too.

He was one of the first names mentioned this time around. I don’t know if it was ever mentioned in here though only over there and was more of a “this will be one of the first names Gruden will go after” type comment.

People seem to believe that money is the silver bullet. Throw enough money at someone and he'll come running to somewhere he really doesn't want to be... or be persuaded to do something he really doesn't want to do. Sometimes, people are happy where they are doing what they're doing for the people they're already doing it for.

Money is neither the problem nor the solution. I think we'll hire someone who wants to coach college football at the University of Tennessee. And some of those names at the top of some of those lists don't want to do one or both of those things.

I know a D1 basketball coach and he said you better make the most money you can as quickly as you can because a coaching career only last so long normally.

I believe Diaz had two stints and left for Texas the first time. He also had Geoff Collins at one point.

Yeah Diaz was Mullens 1st DC at MS St I believe. Got hired on at TX. Struggled with the new BIG 12 style at the time. Went back to Ms St when Collins went to Florida and showed he still has it then Richt grabbed him.

McBride was 1-8 passing and JG led us to the only semi-legit TD drive in the whole game. I think you're crazy.

McBride was also the victim of a couple of dropped passes and near misses.

Frankly, watching Guarantano has been rough for me. He just doesn't seem to have a good feel for the position. He doesn't feel the rush coming, and when he does take off and run, he lacks vision and patience.

Based on an admittedly small sample size against a crappy team, McBride just looked like a more instinctual QB to me.

So he pulls the trigger on incompetence?

I’m sold

Apparently except for his OL coach. If the rumors are to be believed, they're good friends and even though the OL had a tendency to underperform, he has continued to keep him around.

Interesting stat in radio, TCU has only given up a TD in 3 of their last 16 qtrs. They have played Kansas St, Kansas, Iowa St and TX in that run. Imoressive for a Big 12 defense

i couldn't name you a RB he has had either which is probably would be my top concern with his offense. It's probably why he QBs always have 30/20 passing rushing TDs

Last two games JG has a 155 QB rating and completed 75 percent of his passes. Still has a lot of growing to do. Getting live bullets is helping with that. Should've started game 1.

He’s just a freshman getting his first game experience. He’s improving with each game. His offensive doesn’t help him at all either
